Trail

Trail is a task management app for retail and hospitality businesses. We bring UX and engineering expertise to an industry hungry for both. We help store managers and head office teams get their jobs done more easily. With Trail, stores spend less time on admin, and more time doing what counts - being with their customers.

Within our first year we’ve raised significant seed capital and signed companies such as Itsu and Enterprise Inns. With a second round of fundraising underway, and more high street restaurants set to join, we’re showing no signs of stopping.

The Role

Are you looking for a role that can provide real opportunities and real technical challenges at a company you can help shape? Over the next twelve months we’ll be extending our product into new businesses, regions and devices. We’ll also be growing the user base ten fold. We’re looking for a full stack engineer to help do this. Somebody driven to develop the way we work, as well as the software we write.

How We Work

Trail works with a modern stack and tools like Heroku, Codeship, AWS, Postgres, React, JIRA and Slack. We also like solving interesting problems like Multi-platform delivery, Third-party integrations, Highly performant UIs and data extraction & transformation.

We’re small - and want to stay that way! We want to build a small and talented team that remains nimble whilst solving the biggest problems the industry faces. A place everybody can shape.

How you work

We’re looking for people who have an excellent understanding of architecture and system design. You should have experience through the whole stack. You’re an entrepreneur and product focused, a compulsive maker of things.

You have been working as a software engineer for 3+ years and believe that "Any fool can write code that a computer can understand. Good programmers write code that humans can understand." - Martin Fowler

Once A Month Meals (OAMM) believes that family and health shouldn’t come at the cost of your work, time or hobbies. Sitting around the dinner table, eating with those you care about and enjoying a meal full of nutritional value is paramount to our mission. We began and continue to operate, creating patent-pending software, that empowers individuals to bring back family dinner time without sacrificing the little spare time they have available; giving you time for what matters most.

OAMM is the premier site for everything busy people need to make freezer cooking easy. Since 2012, OAMM has operated under a paid subscription model that now offers members access to our patent pending menu building software and custom built user management database. OAMM is committed to steady growth, self-funding, and evolving our product in an effort to better serve our customers.

OAMM’s technology stack consists of three apps written in Ruby on Rails, Ember.js, and WordPress. We have a proven business model and a growing membership that is heavily supported by APIs built on Rails that will continue to evolve.

Technology Stack:

  • Ruby on Rails
  • Ember.js
  • Coffeescript
  • MySQL
  • Postgres
  • Solr
  • WordPress
  • Sass

    Our Ideal Candidate:

OAMM is looking to add to its technology team by hiring an Experienced Ruby Developer.

We’re looking for a friendly developer who can work well with our remote team, have fun on Slack, and write maintainable, scalable, test driven code for our two Rails apps. As part of the OAMM technology team, you’ll gain experience in freezer cooking, “cooking math,” ecommerce, and more. You’ll need to be comfortable with SQL databases like MySQL or Postgres, and either understand (or be able to come up to speed quickly on) Solr. Experience designing, building, and supporting HTTP APIs with authentication is important, because we leverage a number of third party APIs for crucial aspects of our systems. It is also important that this person understands how to design and code for scalability as we have a very large audience and some unique traffic patterns.

Your primary role will be Rails development, but we’d love for you to have some frontend stack chops as well. Coffeescript, Sass, and HTML should be familiar to you. And, if you’re willing to learn, we can provide opportunities for training.

You’ll report directly to our Technical Director, but don’t be surprised if you interact with all our lovely full-time staffers in a typical day. Sparkbox will continue to be our agency for design and development consulting, and you will work closely with OAMM’s Technical Director and the Sparkbox team.

Because we are a distributed team, we’d love for you to have experience working remotely. Distributed teams have their advantages and disadvantages, and we’d love for you to already know what those are. And being remote requires a certain level of communication—so we’re in need of someone who can communicate very well.

If this sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you!

We are currently going through a very exciting and interesting evolution of our platform. We are moving from a traditional RoR architecture to a modern "single page application", exposing our application as a set of hypermedia API's consumed by an Ember front-end to provide a rich interactive experience.

We are now looking to add to our team to accelerate the creation and rollout of this change. To do this we are looking to hire 2 people to join our team. These 2 positions should be able to contribute across the entire development stack. However, we are looking for one of the new hires to have strong experience in building and rolling out SPAs. Ideally, with experience using Ember to do this.

Skills & Requirements

  • 2 to 5 years experience developing web applications
  • Experience with programming languages Ruby and Javascript preferred but good programmers always welcomed
  • Strong understanding of front-end technologies: JavaScript, HTML5, SASS, Ember or any other MV* framework
  • Strong programming skills with focus on clean design, well refactored code and automated testing
  • Comfortable working as part of a remote team
  • Related to remote working a working knowledge of English is required

    Technologies we use

  • Ruby on Rails
  • Yaks, https://github.com/plexus/yaks, open source project created from the core hypermedia technology we use to build our * API
  • MySQL
  • Ubuntu servers managed through CHEF
  • Ember 1.13.x going on 2.0
    • we track and upgrade to Ember regularly
    • we are currently in the process of moving to Ember CLI
  • GitHub for source code management and process support
  • Travis / TeamCity for continuous integration

    How we work

We run a lightweight process that focuses on feature based delivery on a weekly basis. Our co-ordination and communication is largely through daily 'catch-up meetings' and use of appropriate tools such as Trello for backlog management, Slack for communication and Git(GitHub) for source control and feature deployment through PR's and Milestones.

From a coding perspective we place a strong emphasis on clean, minimal, well refactored code backed up by strong suite of automated tests. We make use of peer review for all design and development work.

In general we strive for an approach that empowers and trusts individuals to 'do the right thing' and as a team we try and keep each other true to this.

    Remote working

Our development team works as a remote team with members in Berlin, Malmö and Barcelona. Our wider organisation has people based in United Kingdom and Dublin. Dublin is our headquarters and only office space - with core Support team and Sales and Marketing team.

Remote working has become part of our company DNA. We believe that it offers a lot of advantages to both Ticketsolve and employees. We expect that our new hires will likely be remote working. This means that you should be comfortable working as part of a remote team. If this is new to you, don't worry, it was for us at the beginning as well. We now have lots of experience helping people settle in - so keep an open mind and imagine a working day with no daily commute ;)

    About Ticketsolve

Ticketsolve is a web based online and boxoffice ticketing platform. We currently have over 150 clients based throughout UK and Ireland. These clients are a mixture of Theatres, Arts and Music Festivals and specialty offering such as Ice Skating and Christmas attractions. We are a consistently profitable company with healthy year on year growth.

The new features and abilities we are adding to Ticketsolve puts in a place to deliver strong growth in the coming years. They should allow us to grow our traditional client base and move into new ticketing areas such as tourism and attractions.

We are looking for engineers that are looking to make a difference and define a new industry. Our product team is pioneering a new way for canna-businesses to run. Our goal is to provide the most efficient and profitable way to run a canna-business while simplifying legal compliance.

Since being founded by an experienced team in June of 2014, we have already taken 50% of the Washington retail space and are rapidly growing into new markets.

We are constantly solving tough and interesting problems -- like how to provide a single
experience for customers in different states, keeping them compliant with all the local laws,
and interacting with each state’s traceability systems.

Our engineering team has a strong focus on operating as efficiently as possible and automating
everything that could help us move faster. We rely heavily on continuous deployment and constantly ship small, incremental changes. We also have been built from the beginning as a remote-friendly team with over half of the team currently working remotely.

Requirements

Delivering product at a large scale

Since we are running a product that is the backbone of a retail business, we do not believe downtime is acceptable and will constantly remain focused on how to minimize this possibility. We are looking for engineers who strive for this goal in a modern application and will have an obsessive passion for removing the risk while keep the team moving quickly and efficiently.

Focus on agility

We are a small team and need to remain on our toes when it comes to what our customers need. We are looking for team members that thrive in a changing environment and are willing to do what it takes to ensure our customers are successful.

Great communication skills

Since we are primarily a remote team, most of our communication is done through Slack, email, and video calls. This makes your ability to have discussions and communicate with others through text effectively is very important.

Courageous

We encourage debate in our team. We want to be sure we are always working on the right things and discuss this often. The most important thing is our customers, not our egos, so we need team members that are not afraid to speak up if they believe we are working on the wrong things.

Technology

We don’t require that you know any of the technologies we work with; the best people will be able to learn quickly.

Our stack runs entirely in AWS, and we utilize their services as much as we can but will also build what we need to deliver a great customer experience. We use Ruby on Rails for our API, Objective-C and Swift for our iOS apps, and Ember.JS for our web applications. We use MySQL for our database and Memcached for caching.

Whole Latte Love is among the largest retailers of coffee, espresso and other caffinated goodness on the internet today. In business since 1997 and based out of Rochester, NY, Whole Latte Love sells high end coffee beans and equipment to thousands of people around the world. At Whole Latte Love we are about everything coffee and we put passion behind everything we do. We're looking for a couple of developers to help scale out a new in-house development team and to do bigger and better things.

Technically, we are built on Rails with a customized Spree back end. We deploy to AWS via OpsWorks, and are backed by MySQL and Redis. Our front-ends are primarily Deface/ERB - this is a traditional multi-page app for the time being. We believe in using the right tool for the job, and are always open to evaluating new technologies and platforms. We're not looking specifically for front-end, back-end or devops specialists, although we have pain points that would be served by any of these. Rather, our ideal candidate will build a role around themselves, and be able to find multiple ways they can contribute across our systems, without getting distracted or going too deep down the rabbit hole. We aren't tied to any specific amount of experience, but we expect that you'll be able to take a feature or issue to completion without too much hand holding (what might be called a mid-level developer).

Recent projects of ours have included a web crawler to identify problems, a social network for coffee enthusiasts to share tips and ask each other questions, and we're working on an image-based hashing system which will compare our staging and production environments and make sure that the only differences are ones we know about.

It's a low-key work environment, and we have a lot of management buy-in to build as effective a development team as possible. There will need to be overlap with core hours (8:30-5:00 EST) but we can work out the specifics of what that overlap entails depending on where you live. These positions will be the second and third remote hires respectively, so communication and accountability are at least as important as technical ability.

We are a team of distributed software developers focusing on exciting challenges of voice, video and text: real-time communications. We are Mojo Lingo: Voice Applications that Work Like Magic.

At Mojo Lingo, the focus of everything we do is communications. Communications underlie everything humans do: every new idea that spread, every magnificent cathedral built, every successful revolution happened because the team behind it communicated effectively. Our mission is to bring seamless, contextual, powerful communications to the world.

We are seeking an experienced Web Front End Developer to join our team creating these applications. As a remote position, you will be largely autonomous, and depend on instant messaging and screen sharing for collaboration. In particular, we’re looking for someone who is a strong problem-solver and relishes a challenge in wrangling ambitious features and vanquishing complex bugs. Each person on our team is empowered to make decisions and enjoys great latitude in choosing the right tools and method for the job.

When we say “Front End” we are primarily looking for someone who can use the great power of JavaScript and Ruby on Rails to create interactive and ultimately usable web applications. The skills we think you’ll need the most are JavaScript (experience with frameworks like React, Angular, Ember or similar is required, but we’re looking for someone who is flexible), as well as experience delivering applications with Ruby on Rails. Obviously you should also be strong with HTML and CSS. If you’re not a great designer, not to worry. We’re more concerned about someone who can deliver the function over the form.

From the beginning we have been a distributed team, with headquarters in Atlanta, but our team members are located around North America, South America, and Europe. We build tools that enable people to communicate fluidly across a wide range of devices, technologies and physical spaces. We are known as application developers and often use technology like speech recognition, text-to-speech, Voice over IP (telephony and non-telephony), instant messaging/text chat and everything to do with the Web.

If you enjoy delighting people by making computers do unexpected things, all while solving complex, technical challenges in a unique industry, come join us!

Summary Requirements

In brief

We are a small startup based in London. We are looking to hire an experienced remote full stack developer to build a property (real estate) search and listing app. It’s designed to connect property buyers with sellers.

You’ll essentially be taking sole responsibility for the development, so will have lots of freedom and flexibility (you won’t have anyone treading on your toes). We will, however, still work with you to manage the project and also be integrating a designer at a later stage.

Required skills and experience

The tech-stack we decide to use to build this is completely up for discussion, as we understand different developers favour certain languages and frameworks over others. We’re looking for someone with the following experience:

  • 3+ years full-stack development.
  • Experience building scalable apps that successfully serve real world users.
  • Backend (most likely Rails with Postgres and Redis, but Node could also be a consideration).
  • Front-end (raw HTML, CSS and JS). Potentially Angular, Ember, React or Meteor for some of the search and filtering functionality.
  • Experience integrating external services via their APIs (Stripe, Twitter, Mandrill, error logging).
  • Docker/Dokku deployment a plus, but not essential.

We are looking for a candidate to start within the next month, and estimate this will be a 60 day contract.

IOS Developer

We're hiring another iOS developer to help us build great native apps for Basecamp on all Apple platforms. You'll join an existing iOS team at Basecamp that's currently hard at work building a next-generation native app, but you'll also help keep our legacy catalogue of apps humming.

It's an offering for an experienced developer. You should have multiple shipped iOS apps under your belt (or one amazing one). You should be well-versed in iOS frameworks and APIs, but also be comfortable going off the golden path when necessary.

Our native development approach at Basecamp is hybrid (https://signalvnoise.com/posts/3743-hybrid-sweet-spot-native-navigation-web-content). We combine great native navigation around WebViews and ground-up native features to get the best of both worlds: Productivity through shared codebases on the web, and great fidelity through native.

So while the bulk of the work is in ObjC/Swift, you should also be reasonably comfortable with both JavaScript and Ruby. Enhancing a Rails application to extend the API or tinkering with Turbolinks (https://github.com/rails/turbolinks) to make it work with a native-JavaScript bridge shouldn't scare you.

It's a great time to join Basecamp and our iOS team. We've recently gone all-in on Basecamp (http://37signals.com). Millions of people have used Basecamp, and our iOS apps are both well-liked and growing rapidly as the way people use the system. The latest work we've been doing, and that you'll help us finish, will make that even more so the case.

We're looking for someone who's ready to do the best work of their career – without risking their health, sanity, or life outside of work. Basecamp is here for the long term. We've been in business for 16 years (5 before Basecamp, 11 since Basecamp), and we've been profitable the whole time. We're not beholden to or on any venture capitalist timeline. Private and profitable allows us to set our own course given what's best for our customers and employees.

We believe in taking great care of our incredible team (https://basecamp.com/team), most of whom have been with us for a long time. This means lovely benefits to help you be the best you possible: fitness and massage allowances, fresh fruit/vegetable subsidies, helping out with continued education, matching charity donations, and of course great healthcare and retirement assistance (401k match in the US). When you've been here for a year, you're also in on Fridays off in the Summer. It's a great package that's part of creating a great scene (https://signalvnoise.com/posts/1164-average-environments-beget-average-work).

Since we literally wrote the book on working remotely (http://37signals.com/remote/), we're of course also open to applicants from both the Americas and Europe (any further away is tough to get enough timezone overlap). We do, whoever, expect your proficiency with English to be at or close to a native speaker. If you happen to be in Chicago, we have a lovely office (http://37signals.com/office) for you to work from as you please. If not, we'll pay for co-working space or help you outfit a great home office.

working conditions. Since 2010, LaborVoices, Inc., has been dedicated to
increasing transparency in global labor markets, and global supply chains in

Members of our team enjoy generous benefits, competitive paid vacation time, company-paid health insurance, immediate 401k vesting, and more. We consistently promote from within and to hear more about that and other awesome stories, visit www.alamode.com/careers.

Privately held, we're free of the corporate bureaucracy found in other mature and successful enterprises. We're inspired by the power of simplicity and utility and we’re driven to win.

Job Description

We’re the first comprehensive inbound marketing platform for real estate. And our technology platform includes modern responsive web sites for publishing content, integrations with social media, an email nurturing engine, lead capture, and a lead routing system. Unlike an insurance or energy company where developers are simply a small component, web technology IS our business.

We’re looking for full-stack web developers. What that means to us is that you are a well rounded professional developer who is fluent in each of the technologies that make up our core product engine.

  • You’re completely at home in Visual Studio writing solid C# .Net MVC code.
  • You may not be a DBA, but you have no problem navigating a database structure in Management Studio and writing SQL queries and stored procedures.
  • You're experienced in both consuming and developing RESTful web services.
  • You may not be a designer or specialized front end developer, but you have strong knowledge and skills with HTML, CSS, Javascript, and jQuery that allow you to make everything work efficiently, even if it’s not the prettiest.
  • Software development isn’t just a job for you. You’re passionate about technology and are constantly polishing your skills, learning new techniques, patterns, frameworks, etc.

    Qualifications

You have 3+ years direct experience with all of the following:

  • Building large-scale web applications utilizing .NET Framework 4.0+
  • Fluent with C#
  • Database backed applications using MS-SQL Server / T-SQL
  • Version control system such as TFS or Git.
  • Building clean standards compliant HTML.
  • Implementing front-end UI experiences using JavaScript, jQuery, and AJAX techniques, along with CSS, Less and/or Sass.

Having any of the following would be highly desired:

  • Real estate related experience
  • Implementing responsive web interfaces using the Bootstrap framework.
  • Migrating .Net Web Forms to MVC
  • Developing REST web services using either WCF or preferably Web API
  • Javascript frameworks such as Angular JS, Backbone.js, Ember.js, etc.
  • Mobile web apps using PhoneGap
  • Alternate server-side technologies such as PHP, Ruby on Rails, Node.js, Python, etc.

    Additional Information

This full-time position comes with first-class, top-tier benefits & an environment like no other. We love our people and it shows. EOE.

Senior Software Engineer

AllyDVM

javascript

ruby

Atlanta, GA 2yr

Apply

COMPANY OVERVIEW:
allyDVM aspires to use its proprietary software solutions to be the veterinarian’s ultimate ally. The company was founded in 2011, and we’ve already accomplished a lot.

We won the Harvard Business School MVP Competition in our first year and were granted office space in the inaugural class of residents in the Harvard University Innovation Lab.

The company has since gone entirely remote. We have people in all four US time zones, and we’re looking to add new software developers to the team as quickly as possible.

allyDVM’s core software service is focused on automating communications for sophisticated animal hospitals across the country. With no effort on the part of the veterinary practice, our software can send highly customized reminders – physical postcards, text messages, and emails – pet owners when, for example, Fluffy needs to come in for vaccines. And we do a lot more, too, like patient portals for pet health information (which pet owners can access through web and mobile apps) and so on.

allyDVM has the luxury of growth through proprietary relationships in the veterinary industry. We’ve partnered with some of the largest pharmaceutical companies and distributors in the world, and they are rolling out our software nationally – in some cases even subsidizing the cost of our software for their best accounts.

But allyDVM’s success is not entirely a result of such relationships. Our software services are already very capable in their own right and getting better every day. In fact, an exclusive group of over 700 of the most successful animal hospitals in the country recently designated allyDVM as their group’s “Preferred Provider of Client Communications Solutions.” The selection process took over a year, and our software beat out products from large, established players like Intuit.

OPPORTUNITY OVERVIEW:
We need more developers to ensure we exploit these opportunities fully. We also need to continue pushing our product further and faster. Our development roadmap is clear and ambitious. We’ll be rolling out the first truly robust telemedicine solution in the veterinary industry, building industry-exclusive loyalty program capabilities into our pet-owner facing mobile apps, and much more.

But none of what we do is tech for tech’s sake. Rather, we use technology to solve real problems for real customers who pay real money for real solutions.

We have developed the core of our system with a small, highly skilled team, and need to expand (both the system and the team). This is a great opportunity to influence the direction and architecture of the product and to lead others as the team continues to grow. We work remotely, but very closely, with high interaction through video chat and persistent presence in a virtual office to cut down on isolation.

COMPENSATION:
Depends on experience and capabilities, but we can’t afford to hire any $65,000/year developers. We need experienced people far better and, therefore, MORE expensive than that. We also want someone who values equity ownership - someone who won’t be content with simply cashing checks but rather wants to see the value of his/her equity grow.

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:

Required -
  • 4 years programming experience
  • At least 1 year of experience in a dynamic language (Ruby, Python, Javascript, Lua, etc.)
  • Passionate about building high-quality code and well-architected solutions, not just taking orders
  • Enjoys learning new languages, libraries, and frameworks
  • When encountering a new technology or problem, must want to understand and internalize it, not just learn the bare minimum
  • Comfortable refactoring and designing entire system architectures (as opposed to isolated classes/functions)
  • Willing to work with a small, highly skilled, remote team. Have access to an environment (home or otherwise) conducive to effective/efficient work.

Desired -
  • Experience with the following technologies (or similar technology):
  • Ruby (or other dynamic language)
  • Java (or other statically typed, class based language)
  • Javascript (or other client/browser side programming language)
  • SQL
  • HTML/CSS

Nice to Have -
Experience scaling applications inside AWS
Scaling/Sharding a MySQL database
Experience with the following technologies:
  • AngularJS
  • Coffeescript
  • Javascript mobile app design (phonegap)
  • Ruby on Rails
  • Java Spring

To apply: We’ll look seriously at any and all qualified applicants so just start by sending us a resume - devjobs@allydvm.com. We’ll go from there. Of course, if you have questions about either the company or the opportunity then please let us know by sending an email to the same address. We’ll respond as soon as we can.

We're looking for a smart developer to remotely join our globally distributed team (or, if you'd like to come work out of our Barcelona office, that's cool too).

We have a long term relationship with a client, working on an exciting, complex service-based architecture of 10+ RoR micro services. We have one team of 10 dev/qa in place and are looking to add an additional 5 people in a second team to focus on internationalising the platform.

You'll be:

  • Working with a large, fast moving team (working 11am - 8pm Central European time)
  • Building ecommerce and direct sales functionality with Ruby on Rails services and exposing functionality via APIs
  • Designing, specifying and implementing services to decouple functionality
  • Solving hard business logic with elegant OO-design
  • Ensuring the robustness, performance and failure characteristics of the system.
  • Working on fast iteration cycles and tight deadlines using an agile/scrum methodology
  • Writing well tested, defect free code using rspec/BDD
  • Bonus: occasionally going full stack with Backbone/Marionette

    You should have experience in:

  • high performance production RoR applications
  • profiling and tuning database access
  • decoupling functionality with queues
  • helping mentor junior members of the team

We use agile development practices: 2 week sprints, with daily stand ups, sprint planning and sprint reviews/retrospectives. Good verbal and written communication skills are essential. Of course, we use the best in class tools: Jira, Bitbucket, Slack, Skype etc.

This is a contract position with a long term outlook (6months+ full time project) for the the right candidate.

Why should you work with us?

Because it's fun! We work hard and we play hard. We know that successful projects are down to getting the right people and letting them work smartly, supported by a true agile process. But conferences, good communication and on-site meetups (well, the beach in Barcelona anyway) are also important parts of building the intra-team relationships. We are proud that our people love working with us (and can still have lives outside of work).

Because we work on cool projects. Sure, we can list the latest set of technologies that we use, but that is a given. What's more interesting is how they are used - the design, the architecture, the approach to solve business problems.

Do you:

  • Love writing clean, solid code that's easy to maintain?
  • Enjoy flexing your full-stack muscles by working with a great UX/UI designer on a beautiful site that millions of consumers will use?
  • Crave working on a small, fast-paced team that hates unproductive meetings and “office politics”?
  • Believe you are a truly expert RoR developer who knows how to use Bootstrap to deliver a site that scales from an iPhone 5 to a Retina display?

If you answered “yes!” to these questions, then this is the job for you.

    A little about us:

  • We are a fully-funded, stealth-mode startup in NYC. Our current corporate site is intentionally an ugly Google form.
  • Our small product team (product lead, UX/UI designer, and 1.5 RoR full-stack developers) has built a fully-responsive Rails/Postgres/HAML/SASS/Bootstrap site (with some React thrown in).
  • We’re about to launch our MVP, and have a full backlog of great features to add, so we want to add one more great developer to the team.

    You need to be:

  • Very comfortable both with backend data structures and application logic, as well as front-end Javascript, HTML, CSS, Bootstrap, HAML, SASS and (hopefully) React.
  • The kind of person who loves to code, who takes great pride in clean, well-documented code, and who wants to be involved end-to-end (from architecture discussions, through design trade-offs, through nailing every final bug).
  • Great at collaborating and communicating within a small, fast-paced team where everyone carries his or her own weight.
  • Comfortable with low-overhead process (Slack and Trello) and believe in TDD.

We're looking for one person who is available ~40-60 hours weekly on a regular schedule. There is a lot to learn, with a fair amount of coordination, so we don't want to constantly bring new people up to speed. Given the hours involved, this will likely be your only project (and certainly feel that way to us). We can hire you as a freelancer or employee.

You can be located anywhere, but must overlap with NYC for at least 4 hours daily. You must have strong English writing and speaking skills, though your English doesn't have to be fluent.

We're growing our team and looking for great developers who would love the opportunity to join us full time. We’re looking for someone with deep commercial Ruby experience who have built high traffic applications.

You will be primarily doing backend Ruby and Rails work, but we also expect that you're pretty comfortable working on the full stack. We'd expect you know how to write well isolated tests, you value pragmatic design, want to easily deploy to production and care about writing good software.

If you're interested we'd love to give you a role in our company that strives for technical excellence, is relaxed, lets you work from home on your own schedule in your own environment.

What you'll be doing:

  • Writing clean, well thought out and reliable code.
  • Lead small, functionally oriented projects containing team members with different skills and levels of knowledge.
  • You'll work on big projects as well as small maintenance tasks that support our marketing efforts.
  • We don't have testers or sysadmins (yet) so you'll be ensuring your work is production ready when deployed.

    Required abilities:

  • At least three years experience with Ruby on Rails in production.
  • Extensive understanding of HTML and CSS.
  • Good working knowledge of Javascript (but no Coffeescript required :-)
  • Working understanding of MySQL.
  • Familiarity with the open source world, especially rubygems and Github. Open source contribution a huge plus.
  • Excellent online communication skills (IM, Skype, email).
  • Ability to ease self into an existing codebase instead of having to always rewrite everything immediately.
  • Willingness to evaluate existing solutions/gems for applicability instead of just jumping instantly on the latest fad (unless it really is better, of course!)
  • Ability to see the “big picture” and implement solutions that fit into the existing architecture.
  • Have strong, self-informed opinions when it matters.

We want to welcome a motivated developer who can jump in, learn how our team builds software, join a project team and bring great ideas to life in an agile development cycle.

This position is for a 3-month contract with the potential for either renewal or full time employment.

Here are some things we believe in, that our ideal candidate will as well:

  • The web is a powerful, transformative, democratizing platform.
  • Products are better built in a transparent, collaborative, agile partnership, with the client, end users, developers, designers, researchers, ideators, PMs, and UX experts.
  • Quality and maintainability are important. Our products should be robust, tested, and another developer should be able to pick up where we left off.
  • Growth matters. We want our team members to grow in their technical and soft skills, and to play an active role in the rest of the team’s growth.
  • The entire Domain7 team is valuable. We want our efforts to help make team members across their company better at their work, and enjoy working with us.
  • Feedback and review is positive: We like to pair program on tough challenges, evaluate each other’s code, share case studies, debrief, and iterate our own process

As far as your technical skills, we’d love to hear about your experience with:

  • Databases: We use Postgres a lot, but we’ve also coded against Mongo, SQL Server, Oracle, and MySQL
  • Languages and Frameworks: We are sold out on open source tech, and our framework choice of the past couple years has been Ruby on Rails, but we’ve also worked with the LAMP stack, asp.net, and Java
  • API development and consumption: We love REST and JSON, and we hope you do too, but we’ve worked with SOAP and XML as well.
  • Front-End: We tend toward AngularJS when more performant or app-like client-side experiences are required. While we have a separate front-end dev team, we’d still love to know what your level of strength is in semantic markup and responsive styling
  • Lifecycle Tools: We love git for source control, track errors with sentry, manage user stories in Pivotal Tracker, and write tests in Cucumber and RSpec

So, introduce yourself to us! Tell us about the products you’ve been a part of making, what roles you’ve played in making them, the tech you’ve used, and teams you’ve been a part of.

We can offer competitive hourly rates and a retainer.

You will be working with one of our co-founders, who built our Rails app (and lives in LA, btw), as well as database and devops experts.

Skills & Requirements

  • Solid Ruby on Rails experience, including experience with Rails 4

  • NoSQL datastores, specifically Redis and DynamoDB
  • Strong history with Rails applications that require high uptime and have a large user base

We're looking for a senior level Ruby and Rails developer who's comfortable doing a little bit of everything, from front-end JavaScript and SASS to back-end Ruby (both inside and out of Rails), linguistic analysis, data retrieval and parsing, and more. Have experience scraping review sites? That is an expertise we need!

ABOUT WEBPUNCH

We are an online reputation management company. We help business generate positive reviews written from real clients (no funny stuff here), monitor what is being said and react to these online reviews. We have a large client base and are growing at a rapid rate!

ABOUT OUR APPLICATIONS

Our current Rails stack looks like this:

  • Rails 4.0.x
  • Ruby 2.1.x
  • Postgres
  • CoffeeScript
  • SASS
  • Slim
  • And more (Kaminari, Devise, Rspec, Cucumber, etc.)

And we use the following services:

  • Heroku
  • S3
  • GitHub
  • New Relic
  • Slack
  • Trello

    ABOUT YOU

The ideal candidate for this position would have experience working with established, medium to large sized codebases. You should feel comfortable refactoring old code, writing tests when you spot something that's lacking coverage, and implementing new features quickly. Part of the job also entails maintaining a set of Ruby-based shell scripts, so you'll need to be familiar with using Ruby outside of Rails, too.

Additionally, you'll need to have some familiarity with sending email. Lots of email. This includes an understanding of what can and can't be done when creating templates that'll work well in all of the major email clients.

*If you have experience with screen scraping and parsing natural language to determine mood, we definitely want to talk to you.

Finally, a general familiarity with working with external APIs, fetching data, and parsing CSVs would also be really helpful, as would a deep understanding of Git.

We're a very small team of 4, so you'll need to be a good communicator, as we work very closely and very quickly. And like most Rubyists, you should have a love of well-written, well-tested,and performant code.

WebPunch is still young, so there's a big opportunity here to help steer the direction of the code and the product as it grows. If you think you're up to the challenge, we'd love to hear from you.

Loco2 (http://loco2.com/) is an independent online agent for rail tickets in Europe. Our mission is to make booking a train as simple as booking a flight. We're integrated with the booking systems of major rail operators, and our ticket coverage is unrivalled and growing.

About us

We're a small team of passionate people. Our technical director is former Rails core team member Jon Leighton. Meet the rest of the Loco2 family at http://loco2.com/about/team/.

Our customers are at the centre of what we do, and we're proud to have an average rating of 9.2 out of 10 (https://www.trustpilot.co.uk/review/loco2.com).

We're growing quickly, and most of this growth is organic, as customers spread the word about the great experience they've had booking tickets with us.

We have an office in London, but our technical team works remotely and with flexible hours. Everyone in the company uses online tools like Hipchat, Trello, Github and Basecamp to work together.

We are not a VC-backed startup and we don't think caffeine-fuelled all-nighters are a very good way to grow a company that is built to last. We're driven to delight our customers, but we have lives outside of work too.

Technical challenges

Our software stack consists of a modern Rails application, a PostgreSQL database and a pure-Ruby backend library which we use to communicate with train booking APIs.

We're currently integrated with 6 different European rail booking systems, which is how we achieve our very wide coverage. But it also means that we need to diligently manage technical complexity, as each system works in a slightly different way, with its own features and quirks. SOAP is (unfortunately) used by many APIs, which is why we released our open source library, LolSoap (https://github.com/loco2/lolsoap).

Some of the most difficult challenges we face relate to routing and making sense of lots of data. Which routes are best to get from A to B? Which booking systems should be queried? How might we cache data without affecting accuracy of results?

As well as improving and perfecting our product, we also need to scale the business as our sales continue to grow. This involves making sure that performance is optimised and customer problems are minimised.

About you

We're looking for new engineers to join the team. An ideal candidate:

  • Has 4+ years of programming experience
  • Knows Ruby or another similar language
  • Is comfortable designing object oriented software from scratch, not just implementing CRUD Rails apps; a pragmatist who can see the trade-offs involved in the different approaches to solving a problem
  • Thinks independently and critically, striving to discover the root causes of problems rather than treating the symptoms
  • Actively considers future maintainability when deciding how to implement something
  • Communicates very well using written English
  • Learns quickly and independently, but doesn't hesitate to ask for help when needed
  • Enjoys getting their teeth stuck into complicated problems, as well as being willing to pitch in on some of the more routine tasks which inevitably arise
  • Can be on call from time-to-time during some weekends, in case we need to respond to an emergency problem
  • Can work hours that have some overlap with London daytime
  • Is motivated by Loco2's mission

Who You Are

We're looking for a full-time backend Rails developer to help build and maintain our social media management tool, Edgar. Edgar launched less than a year ago and has thousands of paying customers that will use the features you build every day. We’re growing ~20% month on month. (No pressure, right?)

You’ll be working on big, exciting projects like optimizing our Sidekiq queuing system to work JIT, creating an intelligent scheduler (analyze users’ data and figure out when they should be sending social media updates out), and migrating our customer analytics code to use a middle layer like segment.io. You’ll also have shared responsibility for choosing and mentoring a junior dev or two, Obi-Wan Kenobi-style.

(We have a dedicated, amazing, devilishly handsome front end Rails dev on the team - who totally didn’t write this listing or anything - so it’s ok if you’re not super comfortable with the front end stuff. You’ll be the go-to person for the backend stories, with the confidence and experience to back that up.)

Our stack is Rails 4, Ruby 2.1, Heroku, Postgres, Sidekiq + Redis, HAML, Coffeescript and React.js.

Our Dev Process

We do a fair amount of pair programming and a lot of code reviews, we love solid tests and CI, and we’re moving toward CD as quickly as we can. Basically? We’re constantly improving our process so we can create an ideal developer environment - low overheads, high transparency, and as flat as we can be. Estimates were inaccurate and irrelevant, so we dropped ‘em. Artificial deadlines weren’t doing it for us, so we switched from scrum to pure kanban and never looked back. When something isn’t working, we’re not afraid to throw it out and try something new - so if you have exciting ideas about the dev process and how to make your own job even easier, you’ll fit right in.

We’re striving for a flat organisation, so you’ll be choosing your own priorities from incoming stories (with support from customer service, marketing, and the rest of the company, of course). You’ll also have final responsibility for features, from inception all the way through to delivery, so your teammates know exactly who to shower with praise when you score a big win.

Benefits

We cover 75% of your health insurance for you and your family. We do 401k matching. We’re really into ongoing education, so of course we’ll cover any education materials you need to enhance your mad skills. (Right now we’re looking into using airplay.com to get some external pair programming in, too, so that’s cool.) We don’t have a fancy espresso machine or free beer on Fridays. We will pay you enough to be able to buy all the beer and espresso you like.

About Us

We’re a small team of 10 people, all working remotely across the US. We do a lot of collaborating and meme-swapping on HipChat, along with virtual team meetings on the regular and a twice-annual meetup week where we work together on cool projects all day and generally make fools of ourselves all night. We’re proudly bootstrapped and profitable, which means we get to turn down VC money a lot and keep doing things the way we like. We’re big fans of the Thoughbot Playbook. Oh, and doughnuts! We love those, too, man.

Requirements

  • You have senior level backend Rails skills and 3 years+ experience
  • You live anywhere in the USA or Canada
  • You love Ruby and you love Rails
  • You are passionate about improving the dev process and recognize the value of an awesome company culture

We are seeking an experienced Full Stack Ruby developer to join our team creating these applications. As a remote position, you will be largely autonomous, and will be required to work independently. In particular, we’re looking for someone who is a strong problem-solver and relishes a challenge in combating ambitious features and complex bugs. Each person on our team is empowered to make decisions and enjoys great latitude in choosing the right tools and method for the job.

What does “Full Stack” mean to us? When we deliver an application, we don’t just throw it over the wall. We think about how our customer will deploy the application and make sure we give them something they can run. That means we are looking for help not only writing the software, but also figuring out how to package it and how to troubleshoot and manage it in production. We’re looking for someone who is comfortable digging into operational issues and finding ways to make everything work that much more smoothly.

From the beginning we have been a distributed team, with headquarters in Atlanta, but our team members are located around the United States, South America, and Europe.

Must Haves - Soft Skills:

  • Curiosity and aptitude for learning complex systems
  • Excellent communication skills - since this is remote work, strong communication by phone/IM/email is critical
  • A commitment to deliver quality work on time

TL/DR: We are a distributed team of 5 building an incredible SaaS platform that helps companies make their people happy. We are in stealth, have done this before and are launching our beta soon - so this is an “all-in” role. If you’re looking for a cushy “9-5” job, please keep looking, but if you want to change the world and help make 1,000,000 people happier at work while being part of an amazing team and learning a lot along the way, please keep reading...

Who we are

We are currently in stealth mode, but right now we can tell you that:

  • Our mission is to make 1,000,000 people quantifiably happier at work
  • Our founder has previously built 3 successful companies and raised $100M
  • We are well funded and focused on an industry that’s ripe for disruption
  • We are looking for the best talent, regardless of where you are
  • We are a small team of 5 working ridiculously hard to realize our vision

We will of course tell you more if you apply for the position and if we feel you’re a good fit. Because we’re in stealth mode, we simply want to limit the amount of information we put out publicly right now. Thanks for understanding.

    What we’re building

A beautiful, simple SaaS platform that helps fast-growing companies dramatically improve their culture and retain their best people as they scale.

    Who you are

If these words describe you, then please keep reading:

  • Entrepreneurial
  • Results-driven
  • Reliable
  • Passionate
  • Committed
  • Resourceful
  • Life-long learner

You love building things and you’re a hardcore technologist - but you’re not arrogant or set in your ways. You know when it’s time to whiteboard ideas but you also know how to avoid analysis paralysis and build great software.

You make technical decisions that take into account today’s considerations (ship early and often) but you also think a few years down the track. Sure, 100 people might use that feature today, but how will it perform when there are 1,000,000 users in 3 years? You know the delicate balance between over-engineering and under-planning.

    What you’ve done

You’ve done a good amount of freelancing or remote work in the past, so you’re used to using tools like Slack and Google Hangouts to keep in constant communication with your team - whether they’re in the same city or on the other side of the world.

You can work as part of a small team or on your own, but you’re an excellent written and verbal communicator. You probably have your own personal blog and/or regularly contribute to Medium or Quora to help others. You’re always learning and have a thirst for knowledge.

Because you’ve worked at fast-growing startups before, you’re comfortable wearing multiple hats and switching between them regularly - sometimes hourly. Nothing is too much effort for you and you like getting in and rolling up your sleeves to solve a problem. If you need to learn a new technology or skill, no problem - you’ll get it done.

You’ve worked on both small and large projects in the past and love building software. You’re also extremely proficient working with:

  • Ruby on Rails
  • Sass, Haml, CoffeeScript
  • AWS, Rackspace, Fastly
  • PostgreSQL
  • Solr

Ideally, you also have one or more of these skills:

  • Experience designing service-oriented architectures
  • Web operations or system administration experience
  • Strong front-end development skills

    How you see the world

In past roles, you’ve worked directly with customers to help understand their needs and translate a product spec into functional, production ready code. You’re mature enough to know that being a senior engineer is about much more than writing code and you think about architecture, scalability, performance, design implications and most importantly - the customer - with every decision you make.

You care deeply about your legacy. Code quality is extremely important to you and as such you pay close attention to detail. Anything pushed into production by you is known to be polished and well thought out - and you take pride in that. You’re a craftsman (or woman) and see code as the tool you use to create software that people love.

Finally, when asked what you’re best at, “learning” would top the list. You know that technologies come and go and understand that a continual commitment to learning is really the only thing that matters.

    In regards to experience, you:

  • Have 3-5 years of experience as a senior engineer with a good chunk of that time spent at fast-growing startups
  • Are used to working with RoR and have advanced experience building RESTful web services & APIs
  • Have strong experience working with multiple languages and can speak to the pros and cons of each
  • Are not a jerk and don’t have an ego - you respect people and go out of your way to be helpful
  • Have led teams in previous roles and are comfortable hiring and interviewing other engineers
  • Have passions or hobbies outside of work - you understand the need for balance

    Where you are

At home, at your local coffee shop or living life as a digital nomad. You are wherever you want to be and wherever makes you happy. We are a fully distributed team.

    Things you might do

  • Build and ship features independently, with fast release cycles (every week)
  • Fix bugs ranging from small logic changes to more complex issues involving complex SQL queries
  • Enhance and extend our SaaS architecture to support rapid growth in number of customers
  • Reply to support inquiries not because you feel you have to, but because you want to understand customers better
  • Work with other engineers and product designers to brainstorm and test new ideas
  • Help onboard new engineers and show them the ropes
  • Drive to continuously maintain high product quality and improve the process

    Benefits and perks

  • Highly competitive salary
  • Stock options
  • Premium health coverage
  • Work from wherever makes you happy
  • Reimbursement for a desk in a co-working space if required
  • Choose the hours you work (4+ hours overlap with U.S. required)
  • Macbook Air
  • Unlimited books from Amazon
  • Unlimited Starbucks card
  • Membership at your favorite health club
  • 2 international trips per year for team events (2 weeks total travel)

Who we are

Tread is an early stage startup for capturing and sharing all the unique and cool experiences you're out having, and our growing userbase seems to like what we're doing. We're looking for a Mobile Software Developer to help take our app to the next level.

What we’ve got

Our app is iOS only, and we're live in the app store. It's written in Objective-C, though we're looking forward to spending some time with Swift in the coming months. The app hooks into a RESTful API that's powered by Ruby on Rails. We'll be building a version for Android in the future, but it's not our focus just yet. We’ve got a number of interesting challenges coming up, many of which involve iterating on our UX and performance tuning. We want to make sure our users have the best experience we can build.

What we need

We’re looking for a talented software developer who loves their work and specializes in building efficient and beautiful mobile experiences. We'd like this person to be able to demonstrate a track-record of successfully developing for iOS in the past, and to be interested in growing to tackle other platforms like Android in the not-to-distant future.

What we want

We want to find someone who naturally prefers to work on a small team, someone who can excel in a distributed, remote environment and who's equipped with the communication skills to do so. We're looking for someone who smiles when they show us the things they’ve built and who shares our love of making happy users with technology. We built Tread because we love showing the world all the places we're going and seeing what our friends are up to -- we're users! We'd love it if those sorts of things make you excited too.

What we offer

We're a stealth mode education start-up in the Los Angeles area that is re-inventing the way institutions utilize technology. The founders and many of the employees at the company were instructors themselves at universities so we have an intimate knowledge of how desperately this area needs to be properly served. We set out to build a solution to this problem and have since received nothing but support and positive feedback from many large players in the industry.

We are looking for a strong Ruby on Rails web developer to join our small but talented web team. We are flexible on location and are open to a remote developer as long as you are a strong communicator and have experience working remotely.

What you’ll be doing
Although there are many moving parts to what we are trying to accomplish, our flagship product runs as a Ruby on Rails web application that makes heavy use of Amazon’s cloud hosting and services environment. We have made great progress so far towards our goals, but are looking for an additional developer to help shift into the next gear. The web team itself is currently only a handful of people, so you’d be coming in near the ground floor with a chance to contribute ideas as much as code.

We are building one of the world's largest healthcare networks, connecting physicians, pharmacies, and insurance companies to help patients get on and stay on their medications. Our developers work directly with our customers and sales and support teams, not business analysts and managers, to figure out how to make our customers happy. This means that our developers have a broad set of responsibilities and roles to cover in a work environment full of exceptional and driven professionals.

We believe people are at their best when they are comfortable and having fun. We strongly believe that the best developer teams are built by hiring both local and remote developers and making sure that all are first-class citizens. We also make sure our developers have the tools they need to do their jobs, like MacBook Pros, large monitors, standing adjustable desks, and fantastic pair partners. Despite our rapid growth, we strive to keep our start-up origins apparent in our culture – we are "casually intense."

What CoverMyMeds Developers Do

  • First and foremost, design and develop software for the CoverMyMeds product line. This includes web applications for physicians, pharmacists, and health insurance companies as well as APIs to integrate with third-party systems. You will work side-by-side with our customer-support and sales staff to understand customer needs and make sure your work really matters. Our software will help over 3 million patients get on their medication this year!
  • Design and develop internal support software such as support-team utilities, automated test scripts, and deployment scripts.
  • Assist our support team to resolve tough customer issues.
  • Assist with revision control and deployment, also improving the process to increase our efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Continuously improve your technical and design expertise, learning new tools, techniques, and ways of working.
  • Assist in mentoring less-experienced developers, and generally sharing what you have learned with your colleagues.

    About Our Technology Stack

We provide tools to users in all parts of the prescription-drug ecosystem to create and manage Prior Authorization requests for insurance coverage.

  • We maintain both a user-facing web portal and a set of RESTful API services for physician, pharmacy, and insurance systems.
  • All of our new development is done in Ruby on Rails with jQuery and Backbone.js.
  • We also support our "legacy" applications in PHP and Python.
  • We support all of our own infrastructure, built on a 100% open-source stack, at a co-located data center.

    Qualifications

  • Four-year computer science or engineering degree or equivalent experience. Demonstrated experience and proficiency in developing web-based software and interfaces.
  • Demonstrated experience and proficiency in developing SQL database software.
  • Experience with our development tools and environment desired such as Ruby (primarily with Rails), Python, PHP, JavaScript, jQuery, Backbone.js, and SQL.
  • Demonstrated experience in working in a highly collaborative environment with other software developers.
  • Ability to work and thrive in a highly creative, collaborative, and dynamic environment.

Newspaper Club helps people make and print their own newspapers. Since 2010 we’ve printed over 7 million papers, built a tool for designing a paper in your browser, and launched a print-on-demand marketplace. We’re in the process of redeveloping several of our online systems and are looking for developers to join us.

This time around we’re looking for freelancers to join our existing technology department, specifically to work on our customer facing website. You’ll need to be comfortable writing solid, semantic, HTML, JS and CSS. Ideally you’ll be well versed in SASS and HAML (or ERB) and have a good understanding of Ruby on Rails.

You don’t need systems administration experience but being comfortable with Linux would be a big plus, as would using Git and GitHub to manage source code. Some familiarity with Configuration Management tools such as Chef or Ansible would help too.

As we’re a distributed team we use Slack, Basecamp, and Trello along with other tools, and clear communication skills are a must.

In return, we’ll offer a competitive daily rate, flexible hours, and a relaxed working environment. We believe in having fun, doing work we’re proud of, and going home on time.

Rails Dev Position, full time (40hrs/week), work from home

We launched Edgar (http://meetedgar.com) less than 10 months ago and we’ve already grown to 2k paying users. We’re growing crazy fast we need you to take Edgar to the next level. We have a strong customer base that is dying to get their hands on what you’re making - you will not be building something that no one will ever use, or that will be “pivoted” to an unrecognizable death.

We do not have a fancy espresso machine or free beer on Fridays. We will pay you enough to be able to buy all the beer and espresso you like. And your title will be developer, not ninja. (But if you actually are a real ninja, we’re not gonna lie - bonus.)

We’re a virtual company distributed across the US, you’ll be working from your own home wherever you are.

About The Role

You’ll be joining us as a backend developer, working full time on Edgar (http://meetedgar.com), a Ruby on Rails 4 project. Our dev team is small, so you’ll have full responsibility for the features you implement. We have a dedicated front-end developer on the team, so you’ll be mostly focused on backend (maybe 85%). As per usual, we’re into lean and agile development, love Trello, love code reviews, love TDD.

This is a full-time position, with health insurance and 401k starting 3 months after you begin.

About You

You have been a Rails dev for at least 2 years.

Skills/experience you must have:

  • Agile / Scrum development
  • TDD / Rspec
  • Git
  • Heroku
  • Sidekiq / Other delay job

    Bonus stuff:

  • Experience with 3rd party APIs like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Stripe
  • You live in US/Canada so that it’s easy for us to work together live. (The current dev team is west coast, so that’s even better.)

You are a master of the teh googles and figuring stuff out when you hit a roadblock. You’re excellent at problem solving and troubleshooting. You’re looking to work with a productive, organized team to make a great product together!

About the role:

Lonely Planet currently has developers around the world and we're looking for more Ruby folks to join a distributed team working roughly in US time zones. Experience working on web APIs is a bonus but not mandatory.

The Lonely Planet Online team is responsible for delivering lonelyplanet.com and all the underlying technology, a place that inspires, connects, and helps travellers. We are challenged with bringing over 40 years of authored travel content to life on the web in a way that is engaging for our community and relevant for individual travellers.

We’re passionate about our products and the evolving technologies we use to build them. We want engineers that want to build stuff quickly, probably break things along the way and fix it even faster. We use lean principles. We value rapid deployment, metrics driven engineering, and experimentation.

We love open source development and encourage developers to open source their work or contribute to open source projects. Do you contribute to an open source project or write a blog? Let us know. We’re interested in what you’re excited about. Here’s what we’ve been up to:

  • our engineering blog: http://engineering.lonelyplanet.com
  • our GitHub repo: https://github.com/lonelyplanet.

    You:

  • love and have mastered Ruby (and hopefully some other languages too)
  • bore friends by talking about test-driven development and automated testing frameworks (we use minitest, RSpec, Cucumber and Selenium)
  • always use CI and continuous deployment (we use Jenkins)
  • are unable to live without source code management (we use Git and GitHub)
  • need to understand technology problems as part of a broader product vision
  • respect Ron Swanson (OK, this one isn’t really a requirement)
  • have passion for travel and interest in building systems that connect travellers with content and each other.

    Our Technology:

We’re big believers in ‘right tool for the right job’ and encourage engineers to try new technology. But just to give you a taste, this is some of the technology we’re currently big fans of:

  • Ruby and Ruby on Rails
  • Sass, Haml, CoffeeScript
  • iOS and Android
  • AWS, Chef
  • Ubuntu, PostgreSQL

We challenge engineers to be involved in the product, not just the code. In weekly planning sessions, engineers bring product and technology ideas and work together with stakeholders to set priorities and goals for the week.

    At Lonely Planet we:

  • support a healthy work-life balance
  • provide flexible working arrangements
  • work as a unified team across Design, Development, Product, Operations and other broader groups of very talented people
  • are pretty relaxed about most things (every now and then someone even swears, you have been duly warned)
  • don’t really care what you wear (so long as you are clothed)
  • are obsessed with table tennis (not all of us).

Across LP we’re working with large amounts of content from our amazing authors and a growing number of other sources so we can continue to deliver rich, up to date content to travellers through a variety of products and platforms.

Lonely Planet has always been at the forefront of travel in the digital world launching lonelyplanet.com in 1995 and travel guides for Palm Pilot in 1999 and iOS apps a decade later. That passion continues today with teams in London and Nashville continually innovating and improving the experience for travellers visiting our website. We’re entering an exciting new era of Lonely Planet on mobile, being led from our Nashville office.
