Trail

Trail is a task management app for retail and hospitality businesses. We bring UX and engineering expertise to an industry hungry for both. We help store managers and head office teams get their jobs done more easily. With Trail, stores spend less time on admin, and more time doing what counts - being with their customers.

Within our first year we’ve raised significant seed capital and signed companies such as Itsu and Enterprise Inns. With a second round of fundraising underway, and more high street restaurants set to join, we’re showing no signs of stopping.

The Role

Are you looking for a role that can provide real opportunities and real technical challenges at a company you can help shape? Over the next twelve months we’ll be extending our product into new businesses, regions and devices. We’ll also be growing the user base ten fold. We’re looking for a full stack engineer to help do this. Somebody driven to develop the way we work, as well as the software we write.

How We Work

Trail works with a modern stack and tools like Heroku, Codeship, AWS, Postgres, React, JIRA and Slack. We know that TDD, automated end-to-end testing, peer reviews, and an agile workflow result in awesome products and happy customers. We also like solving interesting problems like Multi-platform delivery, Third-party integrations, Highly performant UIs and data extraction & transformation.

We’re small - and want to stay that way! We want to build a small and talented team that remains nimble whilst solving the biggest problems the industry faces. A place everybody can shape.

Trail also offer remote working and flexible hours. We don’t need to see people every day to know they’re doing a great job.

How you work

We’re looking for people who have an excellent understanding of architecture and system design. You should have experience through the whole stack. From single page client applications to multi-page web applications and microservices. You understand the design patterns used in frameworks like Ruby on Rails, React & Angular but you’re not tied to any one thing.

You’re an entrepreneur and product focused, a compulsive maker of things.

You have been working as a software engineer for 3+ years and believe that "Any fool can write code that a computer can understand. Good programmers write code that humans can understand." - Martin Fowler

We’re building an environment for smart engineers to grow, and make things they’re proud of. If you want to be part of that experience, get in touch.

Who we are

With LaterPay, we want to change the way people buy and sell digital content on the Internet. Why? Because we believe paying for digital content should be fast, convenient, and fair. And because we think you should be able to buy the exact piece of content you want.

We want to create a great software product which influences and changes the way people use paid content of any kind on the Internet. The usage of paid content should be as easy and convenient as going out to dinner: you are served first and pay later.
We want to build a user-centric product that makes users feel smart. It should represent the simplest, most secure way to buy digital goods. We want to change the way people regard paid content, turning it into a great experience. We want to enable businesses to offer "paid content as a service", convincing users of their content's value instead of forcing them to pay before actually getting the content.

We want to create an environment of excellence in which performance meets comfort and fun. We have an office, located in the center of Munich next to the Isar River, but around half of the company works remotely, meeting up together every few months.

What we have

Our back-end stack is primarily built around Python/Django, so some of our services use the Django Templating Language for HTML.

Out front-end stack varies from project to project but we primarily use these technologies:

  • Gulp
  • NPM for dependency management
  • The inuit.css Framework
  • CommonJS modules used with browserify
  • React.js

Slack, JIRA, and GitHub are our working tools for communication and code.

    Things we’re particularly looking for

  • Knowledge of creating high performance websites and web-apps
  • Experience writing component-based CSS and JavaScript (following CommonJS)
  • Knowing how to configure Gulp and extend the toolchain if necessary
  • Ideally, you have some experience with building widgets or web components

  • HTML, REST, JSON, etc
  • Excellent debugging skills

    Personality:

Help Scout

PHP Software Engineer

Help Scout

javascript

2yr

Apply

Summary

PHP runs a lot of what we do here at Help Scout. It drives most new features, integrations and all our back-end admin tools. We have ambitious plans for the future and are looking for customer-driven engineers to help us craft a wonderful product experience. You’ll be joining three other senior level engineers on our Platform team to create software used by over 4,000 (and growing!) companies around the world.

Tools We Use

  • PHP - the test-driven, object-oriented kind
  • Backbone.js, Marionette and jQuery
  • Node.js
  • RabbitMQ
  • Java (APIs)
  • MySQL and MongoDB
  • Git + Github
  • AWS

    About the Role

  • The engineering team currently has about fourteen people, three of whom will be your teammates on the Platform team. On a typical day you may help a customer with an issue, add a feature to our back-end admin tool or start work on a third party integration.
  • The Help Scout front-end is built with Backbone.js and Marionette, so you’ll be writing JavaScript as well. Building something new usually involves pulling in data from a Java API endpoint, creating a PHP passthrough and implementing the front-end components in JavaScript.
  • Your team works in two-week sprints and communicates mostly via Slack. When you finish a project and send a pull request, your teammates review the code and test cases (often over a screen-sharing session) before pushing to production. You’ll work autonomously for the most part and we trust you to get work done when/where you can be productive.
  • The Platform team is the first line of engineering support when a question can’t be answered by our in-house support team. We’ll get you up-to-speed with engineering support so you can help us craft a customer experience that’s always getting better.

    About You

  • You are very experienced with modern PHP development practices and open source frameworks. You’ve worked on these sorts of projects at scale and feel confident solving complex problems.
  • You have created Backbone (or similar framework) apps before and can write JavaScript from scratch to implement a feature. Marionette experience is a bonus, but not required. We can help you pick it up.
  • Your code is not only reliable and performant for customers, but can be read, maintained and understood easily by other engineers on your team. You can also speak and write in terms that non-geeks understand. Clear communication is super important in a remote culture like ours.
  • You believe remote teams are the future of work, or are at least excited about the idea. You have experience working with remote teams or can adjust your work/management style to be remote-friendly.

    About Us

  • Help Scout is a remote team with employees in eleven states and six countries (seven in the Boston office). We optimize the team for excellence over geography and overcome remote challenges through transparency, trust, and video conferencing.
  • We’re a customer-driven company and always will be. Everything follows the customer experience, no exceptions. There is no sales team. Everyone at Help Scout is aligned in their motivation to create outstanding content and build a product that is a pleasure for businesses to use.
  • Our company is growing quickly and has aspirations of helping millions of people around the world. Accomplishing our goals will present countless challenges and require you to excel in every aspect of the position. It’s super hard, but the people we’re looking for love tackling hard problems.
  • This is not the typical startup “rocketship”. We’ll never compromise customers or the experience in favor of growth. Our purpose is to build a profitable company that small businesses love and sustain it for the long term. There are no kegerators, playgrounds or Xboxes. Instead, we’d prefer employees to have a sustainable work/life balance and for their career at Help Scout to be a long one.

    Benefits

  • Work anywhere - work in our Boston office or anywhere in the world, as long as you have 4 hours overlap with your team
  • Health & dental - we cover you and your family's health/dental insurance 100% and reimburse up to half of your deductible
  • Flexible vacation - take time off when you need it, we trust you
  • Great tools - each employee needs a Mac laptop and 27' display, so we'll get you what you need
  • Professional development - everyone gets a stipend they can use to become better at their craft
  • Complete transparency - everyone has full access to business metrics and financial information about the company

Help Scout supports workplace diversity and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, gender identity or expression, national origin, age, military service eligibility, veteran status, sexual orientation, marital status, physical or mental disability, or any other protected class.

We’re looking for a Junior Support Programmer who will be responsible for a variety of customer support related duties for HelpSpot. First and foremost, you’ll answer questions on how to use HelpSpot, help identify bugs, and assist customers with optimizing the system in complex situations. This will require gaining a deep understanding of the software and it’s capabilities.

You will help debug installation and server issues on Linux and Windows, IIS and Apache, and our HelpSpot Cloud platform. This will often require using tools like GoToMeeting to work directly with customers in their systems.

Taking what you learn via direct support you’ll also work on improving documentation, writing software tests, and fixing bugs.

We are a team of distributed software developers focusing on exciting challenges of voice, video and text: real-time communications. We are Mojo Lingo: Voice Applications that Work Like Magic.

At Mojo Lingo, the focus of everything we do is communications. Communications underlie everything humans do: every new idea that spread, every magnificent cathedral built, every successful revolution happened because the team behind it communicated effectively. Our mission is to bring seamless, contextual, powerful communications to the world.

We are seeking an experienced Web Front End Developer to join our team creating these applications. As a remote position, you will be largely autonomous, and depend on instant messaging and screen sharing for collaboration. In particular, we’re looking for someone who is a strong problem-solver and relishes a challenge in wrangling ambitious features and vanquishing complex bugs. Each person on our team is empowered to make decisions and enjoys great latitude in choosing the right tools and method for the job.

When we say “Front End” we are primarily looking for someone who can use the great power of JavaScript and Ruby on Rails to create interactive and ultimately usable web applications. The skills we think you’ll need the most are JavaScript (experience with frameworks like React, Angular, Ember or similar is required, but we’re looking for someone who is flexible), as well as experience delivering applications with Ruby on Rails. Obviously you should also be strong with HTML and CSS. If you’re not a great designer, not to worry. We’re more concerned about someone who can deliver the function over the form.

From the beginning we have been a distributed team, with headquarters in Atlanta, but our team members are located around North America, South America, and Europe. We build tools that enable people to communicate fluidly across a wide range of devices, technologies and physical spaces. We are known as application developers and often use technology like speech recognition, text-to-speech, Voice over IP (telephony and non-telephony), instant messaging/text chat and everything to do with the Web.

If you enjoy delighting people by making computers do unexpected things, all while solving complex, technical challenges in a unique industry, come join us!

Summary Requirements

Front End Developer - Rails & JavaScript

Must Haves - Soft Skills:

  • Experience developing web applications with Rails

  • Diagnose failures in staging and production environments, understand the underlying issues, and resolve them

We have big plans for mobile at Help Scout and are hiring another engineer to help the team craft a wonderful experience for customers. Our first project is focused on iOS and we’re leveraging the RubyMotion framework. You’ll be joining one other full-time engineer on the project and building something used by over 4,000 (and growing!) companies around the world.

About the Role

  • Our engineering team now has about fourteen people, but only one of them is working full-time on the mobile app. The two of you will be working hard to to finish all the requirements for version 1.0 and deliver a great product to customers.
  • A separate group of engineers is working on all the API endpoints, so your work is primarily focused on the front-end implementation and design details. You’ll also be getting everything you need from the design team with regard to visual design and interactions.
  • Our experience skews heavily toward web development. We’re looking for someone that’s been working on mobile full-time and can provide expertise/guidance with iOS/Objective-C specifically. You’ll be involved in every decision we make regarding implementation and testing.
  • You’ll work with customers and QA testers to make the mobile app launch a huge success for the business. Post-launch, you’ll work on adding new features, optimizing for other devices and improving the product.

    About You

  • You’ve been working with iOS and Objective-C so long that you know all the in’s and out’s of the platform. Since we’re leveraging RubyMotion to lower the knowledge gap, you’ll need either experience with Ruby or a willingness to pick it up, but Objective-C is still more important.
  • You have a great understanding of how “always online” products like Help Scout communicate with web services in an unpredictable mobile reality. You can help us design everything to fail gracefully and leverage local storage to provide customers with as seamless an experience as possible.
  • You delight not only in the way an application works, but in how it looks, and have an excellent understanding of mobile interaction design. Complex Core Animation is something you love working on because it can help you execute the perfect user experience.
  • You stay up-to-date on the iOS platform and can provide insightful advice about leveraging native platform APIs, all of which are available via the RubyMotion runtime.

* There is no sales team. Everyone at Help Scout is aligned in their motivation to create content that adds value and build a product that is a pleasure for businesses to use.

  • Familiarity with the open source world, especially rubygems and Github. Open source contribution a huge plus.
  • Excellent online communication skills (IM, Skype, email).
  • Ability to ease self into an existing codebase instead of having to always rewrite everything immediately.
  • Willingness to evaluate existing solutions/gems for applicability instead of just jumping instantly on the latest fad (unless it really is better, of course!)
  • Ability to see the “big picture” and implement solutions that fit into the existing architecture.
  • Have strong, self-informed opinions when it matters.

If you are interested, please contact info@spaceinch.com and include a resume and why you think you are a good fit for this position.

Skills & Requirements

  • Solid Ruby on Rails experience, including experience with Rails 4
  • Postgres experience with very large data sets
  • NoSQL datastores, specifically Redis and DynamoDB
  • Strong history with Rails applications that require high uptime and have a large user base
  • Experience writing background jobs for data processing

  • Availability on short-notice for urgent tasks
  • Facebook Graph API experience
  • Familiarity with New Relic application monitoring
  • HTML, CSS, and Javascript skills preferred

    Location

We work remotely with extremely talented folks from around the world. We have developers in NYC and LA, and if you are in one of these locations that’s great. If not, that’s ok too, though we are looking for someone in US time zones.

    About Space Inch

Two of our founding partners are developers and they both have diverse backgrounds in music, architecture, and math. By combining a range of skills, we keep our team tight and sharp.

We are looking to add a developer that is curious, broadly talented, and smart. We want someone who can take responsibility for complex projects and complete them brilliantly. We want someone with good taste and good decision making ability about products. We want someone that we trust to lead a major game project in our company.

Since it was formed in 2009, TeamSnap (www.teamsnap.com) has been passionately dedicated to taking the hassle out of managing, coaching, or organizing team sports and groups. While we have continued to grow, innovate, and add new features based on feedback from our millions of loyal customers, our mission remains the same: build a great product that any parent, coach, team manager, group organizer or sentient robot can pick up and use immediately.

TeamSnap is seeking an experienced software developer with a broad skill set to help build the next generation of our club & league product. You’ll need knowledge of PHP, Ruby, JavaScript, and have some knowledge of content management systems like WordPress, Drupal, or Joomla. Passion and ability to create documentation and support materials is a huge plus.

What You’ll Be Doing:

Our club & league customers run thousands of sporting associations around the world and we provide them with tools to register, track, schedule, collect payments, and communicate with their participants. We are in the process of building a team to enhance this important part of our product set. The first major project is to take our basic content management feature set to a whole new level by leveraging WordPress as a public facing website builder that works in sync with our TeamSnap platform; we're sure customers will fall in love.

The first part of your mission will be to make sure that our website feature set works seamlessly; for our most basic users who just want to make a couple configuration changes to the most advanced users who are experts at making the WordPress platform shine. You’ll also work with our Ruby development team, who manage our API, to receive the API calls that you need to accomplish your goals as well as work with our product and support groups to create an excellent all-around experience for our customers.

In the future, we’ll be undertaking enhancements in many other areas of the club & league product including registration, communication, and scheduling. You’ll have a great deal of latitude to drive the direction of these exciting new features.

Some things that are pretty important to us:

  • 2+ years of web software development background
  • Experience developing in PHP using Wordpress, Drupal, Joomla or a similar CMS.
  • Experience with a wide range of languages with particular emphasis on: PHP, Ruby, and Javascript
  • Successfully delivered useful features as part of a team while being self directed/autonomous.
  • The ability to interface with a REST/JSON API.
  • Passion for a great User Experience - we have designers on staff, but we want you to be interested in what makes a great feature for our customers.
  • A sense of humor and a strong desire to post funny FAIL pictures in our chat rooms.
  • Experience working on an agile team.
  • A customer-focused attitude, with an ability and willingness to work with customers to develop great features as well as diagnose and fix problems.
  • Big ideas and a tiny ego. Tiny Eggo™ optional. We’ll accept waffles of any size.
  • A "Test First" attitude.
  • Experience with automated build & deployment systems.

Other things that would be nice to have:

  • Involvement in youth or adult recreational sports, as a player, parent or coach. We’d love for you to know what our users want out of our website feature set.
  • Creating and deploying VMs within a PaaS.
  • Experience working as part of a remote team.
  • Free Superbowl tickets for all your co-workers (hey, we can dream).
  • Experience with git or Github as a version control tool.

    Location:

TeamSnap is about 3/4 distributed and 1/4 located in our office in Boulder. We’ve done that since day one and it’s part of our culture. We are seeking U.S.-based candidates only at this time. Light travel will be required for meetings in our intergalactic HQ in Boulder, or meetings with fellow developers in other locations.

    Why TeamSnap?

  • Work on a product people actually use and like!
  • While we’re still relatively small, we’re not a fly-by-night startup. We’re an established player in a massive market.
  • We have a proven revenue model, an experienced management team, solid funding and a strong plan moving forward.
  • Hey, what's better than working in your pajamas?

At TeamSnap we hire awesome people, give them the tools to achieve great things and provide strong two-way communication so everyone can grow in their roles and find passion in their work. We strive for long-term, committed employees who feel strong ownership of the company, culture and product.

You’ll really impress us if you sign up for a free TeamSnap account and come at us with real ideas. We live and breathe our product, and we're looking for someone who will bring that same passion.

We are seeking an experienced Full Stack Ruby developer to join our team creating these applications. As a remote position, you will be largely autonomous, and will be required to work independently. In particular, we’re looking for someone who is a strong problem-solver and relishes a challenge in combating ambitious features and complex bugs. Each person on our team is empowered to make decisions and enjoys great latitude in choosing the right tools and method for the job.

What does “Full Stack” mean to us? When we deliver an application, we don’t just throw it over the wall. We think about how our customer will deploy the application and make sure we give them something they can run. That means we are looking for help not only writing the software, but also figuring out how to package it and how to troubleshoot and manage it in production. We’re looking for someone who is comfortable digging into operational issues and finding ways to make everything work that much more smoothly.

From the beginning we have been a distributed team, with headquarters in Atlanta, but our team members are located around the United States, South America, and Europe.

Must Haves - Soft Skills:

  • Curiosity and aptitude for learning complex systems
  • Excellent communication skills - since this is remote work, strong communication by phone/IM/email is critical
  • A commitment to deliver quality work on time
  • Mid-level developer with history of successful projects

    Must Haves - Technical Skills:

  • 2-5 years Ruby experience
  • Experience developing web applications with Rails
  • Strong grasp of software engineering fundamentals
  • Experience troubleshooting Linux Operating System issues
  • Familiarity with network tracing tools like Wireshark

    Nice-to-Have - Bonus Skills:

  • Experience with Voice over IP, especially any of Asterisk, FreeSWITCH, SIP, Telephony, etc
  • Experience with WebRTC
  • Experience with XMPP or other instant messaging systems
  • Basic skills with HTML, CSS & Javascript, but no design skills required
  • Knowledge of programming languages other than Ruby, such as C, Java, Javascript, Go, Erlang/Elixir, etc. We’re looking for someone with a capacity to learn.

    Duties and Responsibilities

  • Drive development of important, customer-facing projects
  • Work on stories as described in our agile project management tool (Pivotal Tracker or Atlassian JIRA)
  • Join our daily standup calls to report status to the team
  • Take feedback from testers and users to identify and resolve application problems
  • Make recommendations on additional features or functionality
  • Diagnose failures in staging and production environments, understand the underlying issues, and resolve them
  • Maintain knowledge of Ruby developer tools and best practices
  • Communicate with clients to understand requirements and report regularly on progress
  • Be self-sufficient delivering assigned tasks - we work as a team, but we expect the members of that team to pull their own weight and contribute independently

    Technology

This is some of the technology we use on projects with our clients. Not every project uses every technology, but we get to apply a diverse range of technology to solve the problems.

  • Version control: Git
  • Web backend: Rails
  • Web frontend: jQuery, Bootstrap
  • Asynchronous workers: Resque, Sidekiq
  • Development project management: Pivotal Tracker
  • Database: MySQL, PostgreSQL, Redis, LDAP
  • Telephony: Adhearsion, Asterisk, FreeSWITCH
  • Messaging & PubSub: XMPP (ejabberd), Redis

    Education and Experience

  • 2-5 years of relevant industry experience, majority with Ruby
  • Proven track record of delivering projects
  • Experience working on small teams preferred

    Location

Live wherever you like! This is a remote position. Of course, if you happen to be in the Atlanta area, you’re welcome to work out of our offices downtown. If you’re not in Atlanta, please be within 5 hours of US Eastern Timezone.

TL/DR: We are a distributed team of 5 building an incredible SaaS platform that helps companies make their people happy. We are in stealth, have done this before and are launching our beta soon - so this is an “all-in” role. If you’re looking for a cushy “9-5” job, please keep looking, but if you want to change the world and help make 1,000,000 people happier at work while being part of an amazing team and learning a lot along the way, please keep reading...

Who we are

We are currently in stealth mode, but right now we can tell you that:

  • Our mission is to make 1,000,000 people quantifiably happier at work
  • Our founder has previously built 3 successful companies and raised $100M
  • We are well funded and focused on an industry that’s ripe for disruption
  • We are looking for the best talent, regardless of where you are
  • We are a small team of 5 working ridiculously hard to realize our vision

We will of course tell you more if you apply for the position and if we feel you’re a good fit. Because we’re in stealth mode, we simply want to limit the amount of information we put out publicly right now. Thanks for understanding.

    What we’re building

A beautiful, simple SaaS platform that helps fast-growing companies dramatically improve their culture and retain their best people as they scale.

    Who you are

If these words describe you, then please keep reading:

  • Entrepreneurial
  • Results-driven
  • Reliable
  • Passionate
  • Committed
  • Resourceful
  • Life-long learner

You love building things and you’re a hardcore technologist - but you’re not arrogant or set in your ways. You know when it’s time to whiteboard ideas but you also know how to avoid analysis paralysis and build great software.

You make technical decisions that take into account today’s considerations (ship early and often) but you also think a few years down the track. Sure, 100 people might use that feature today, but how will it perform when there are 1,000,000 users in 3 years? You know the delicate balance between over-engineering and under-planning.

    What you’ve done

You’ve done a good amount of freelancing or remote work in the past, so you’re used to using tools like Slack and Google Hangouts to keep in constant communication with your team - whether they’re in the same city or on the other side of the world.

You can work as part of a small team or on your own, but you’re an excellent written and verbal communicator. You probably have your own personal blog and/or regularly contribute to Medium or Quora to help others. You’re always learning and have a thirst for knowledge.

Because you’ve worked at fast-growing startups before, you’re comfortable wearing multiple hats and switching between them regularly - sometimes hourly. Nothing is too much effort for you and you like getting in and rolling up your sleeves to solve a problem. If you need to learn a new technology or skill, no problem - you’ll get it done.

You’ve worked on both small and large projects in the past and love building software. You’re also extremely proficient working with:

  • Ruby on Rails
  • Sass, Haml, CoffeeScript
  • AWS, Rackspace, Fastly
  • PostgreSQL
  • Solr

Ideally, you also have one or more of these skills:

  • Experience designing service-oriented architectures
  • Web operations or system administration experience
  • Strong front-end development skills

    How you see the world

In past roles, you’ve worked directly with customers to help understand their needs and translate a product spec into functional, production ready code. You’re mature enough to know that being a senior engineer is about much more than writing code and you think about architecture, scalability, performance, design implications and most importantly - the customer - with every decision you make.

You care deeply about your legacy. Code quality is extremely important to you and as such you pay close attention to detail. Anything pushed into production by you is known to be polished and well thought out - and you take pride in that. You’re a craftsman (or woman) and see code as the tool you use to create software that people love.

Finally, when asked what you’re best at, “learning” would top the list. You know that technologies come and go and understand that a continual commitment to learning is really the only thing that matters.

    In regards to experience, you:

  • Have 3-5 years of experience as a senior engineer with a good chunk of that time spent at fast-growing startups
  • Are used to working with RoR and have advanced experience building RESTful web services & APIs
  • Have strong experience working with multiple languages and can speak to the pros and cons of each
  • Are not a jerk and don’t have an ego - you respect people and go out of your way to be helpful
  • Have led teams in previous roles and are comfortable hiring and interviewing other engineers
  • Have passions or hobbies outside of work - you understand the need for balance

    Where you are

At home, at your local coffee shop or living life as a digital nomad. You are wherever you want to be and wherever makes you happy. We are a fully distributed team.

    Things you might do

  • Build and ship features independently, with fast release cycles (every week)
  • Fix bugs ranging from small logic changes to more complex issues involving complex SQL queries
  • Enhance and extend our SaaS architecture to support rapid growth in number of customers
  • Reply to support inquiries not because you feel you have to, but because you want to understand customers better
  • Work with other engineers and product designers to brainstorm and test new ideas
  • Help onboard new engineers and show them the ropes
  • Drive to continuously maintain high product quality and improve the process

    Benefits and perks

  • Highly competitive salary
  • Stock options
  • Premium health coverage
  • Work from wherever makes you happy
  • Reimbursement for a desk in a co-working space if required
  • Choose the hours you work (4+ hours overlap with U.S. required)
  • Macbook Air
  • Unlimited books from Amazon
  • Unlimited Starbucks card
  • Membership at your favorite health club
  • 2 international trips per year for team events (2 weeks total travel)

Who we are

Tread is an early stage startup for capturing and sharing all the unique and cool experiences you're out having, and our growing userbase seems to like what we're doing. We're looking for a Mobile Software Developer to help take our app to the next level.

What we’ve got

Our app is iOS only, and we're live in the app store. It's written in Objective-C, though we're looking forward to spending some time with Swift in the coming months. The app hooks into a RESTful API that's powered by Ruby on Rails. We'll be building a version for Android in the future, but it's not our focus just yet. We’ve got a number of interesting challenges coming up, many of which involve iterating on our UX and performance tuning. We want to make sure our users have the best experience we can build.

What we need

We’re looking for a talented software developer who loves their work and specializes in building efficient and beautiful mobile experiences. We'd like this person to be able to demonstrate a track-record of successfully developing for iOS in the past, and to be interested in growing to tackle other platforms like Android in the not-to-distant future.

What we want

We want to find someone who naturally prefers to work on a small team, someone who can excel in a distributed, remote environment and who's equipped with the communication skills to do so. We're looking for someone who smiles when they show us the things they’ve built and who shares our love of making happy users with technology. We built Tread because we love showing the world all the places we're going and seeing what our friends are up to -- we're users! We'd love it if those sorts of things make you excited too.

Working with the YouCanBook.me engineering team would be a roller coaster of learning new technologies, building super fast, scalable applications, writing high quality, clean code, and seeing your work be used by literally millions of people every year.

We are looking for human beings rather than code robots. We want to hire people who can be part of our strong team culture - committed to building high quality, robust applications and products that other human beings are going to thank you for.

To hire you we will be looking for:

  • A proven track record of successful Java solutions
  • Evidence that your code can scale
  • Experience of using/building RESTful APIs

Technologies you will need to know*:

  • Core java skills: J2SE/J2EE, Servlets, JSP, JSTL, Hibernate, Tomcat
  • Supporting skills: Git, Maven, Ant, Markdown, OAuth, REST, Mysql, Debian, Redis
  • Familiarity with libraries: Apache Commons, Apache HTTP Client, Jackson, java.time (JSR 310)
  • Nice to have: Twilio APIs, Google APIs, WebDAV/CalDAV

*Please do not apply if you can't tick pretty much all of these boxes - we will be asking you detailed questions and ask you to do some coding exercises for us. If you'd love to work for us but feel you'd suit a more senior role, or have any other questions, then email us separately

You instinctively maintain excellent documentation about all the configuration you create and actively seek interaction with the rest of the team to empower those around you.

We're not dogmatic about it, but you are probably:

This role will suit a senior developer who is ready to take the reins on what will be an intense period of work turning a mainly server-side application into a client-side one which will be used by thousands of people every day. Our priority is to enable a fantastic end-user experience - including re-designing many of our current product features.

We have already stretched our (mainly back-end) dev team quite far in figuring out what is going to work, and we've settled on react.js because of its innovative approach. Your job will be to take the skeleton architecture and turn it into something impressive, scalable and works for our users.

You will be joining a core team of two full time devs (one in the UK, another in Spain), supported by one or two contractors. Being a small team we find we can move really fast and rather than "hit the ground running" we're ideally looking for someone who is able to travel at velocity without actually touching the ground. Getting this work done is a critical part of our plans for the rest of year - lots of product changes and feature enhancements will rely on having a much more responsive and flexible front end, that can evolve rapidly.

A day in the life of coding for YouCanBook.me would include several of video hangouts with the CTO, cross checking your work with him and other colleagues via chat / Breeze.pm, working to weekly deadlines, rolling out continuously to our mirror AWS dev environment. Also be prepared for flying off for the odd conference or week long on site session with the UK team, reading up and getting excited about trying out new technologies, helping out with the inevitable production firefight, getting the satisfaction of incrementally transforming the whole technology structure of our product, working direct with the customers to help solve their problems.

This will be your job. Look at the requirements below - we're happy with strong transferable skills in any of these technologies as long as you can convince us it will get the job done.

To hire you we will be looking for:

  • A proven track record of successful high volume JavaScript solutions
  • Excellent knowledge of the state of the art in JS (e.g. ES6)
  • Non-trivial knowledge/experience of React.js and the Flux architectural approach
  • At least three years experience working with an equivalent JS framework (e.g. Ember, Angular)
  • At least six years experience in client-side JS
  • Proven experience of the new techniques made possible by HTML5
  • Demonstrable experience of efficiently consuming a range of APIs

You’re an imaginative person with great communication skills, and you get a kick from working in an international environment. You instinctively maintain excellent documentation about all the systems you create and actively seek interaction with the rest of the team to empower those around you.

We're not dogmatic about it, but you are probably:

  • Happier with a command line than a mouse
  • Have participated in more than one open source project

We also create and maintain the oldest independent version of the MySQL database server (Percona Server), the only open-source hot backup solution for MySQL (Percona XtraBackup), and many more uniquely valuable software tools such as Percona Toolkit for MySQL users.

Percona is the oldest and largest independent MySQL support and consulting company with a global, 24x7 staff of over 100 serving more than 2,000 customers in 50+ countries since 2006.

Job description

Are you a phenomenal JavaScript developer, particularly with AngularJS? Can you turn ideas into reality, elegantly implemented and rapidly delivered? Do you have a problem-solving, solution-finding attitude? If your answers are “yes”, “yes”, and “yes”, then we’d like you to join our small team and make a big impact with Percona Cloud Tools (https://cloud.percona.com)!

This position is pure programming. You’ll be working on everything from the “nuts and bolts” (e.g. user account management features) to complex, abstract, never-been-done-before features. It’s this latter type of work that requires a senior developer, guru, or “ninja” if you prefer. Often times answers aren’t available at the start, but with your expert help, we’ll turn ideas into reality.

We’re agile, test-driven, and results-focused. That’s not a list of fancy buzzwords, we really practice it: stand-up calls, 100% passing tests, working code delivered every week. We do not spend one month planning and another month implementing; we plan, develop, deploy, and repeat every week.

The work is challenging, but that’s why it’s also fun and rewarding! Plus, our team is small, so you and your work will have a large impact. This is a rare opportunity to start with a great team, on a great project, at a great company with lots of benefits.

Required Skills

  • Expert, senior-level JavaScript programming, particularly AngularJS
  • Expert, senior-level testing
  • HTML, CSS, and LESS
  • Agile (Scrum) practice (deliver working code weekly)
  • git and GitHub
  • Excellent written and verbal English
  • Ability to work with others in team
  • Ability to work remotely and independently
  • Highly-motivated self-starter

    Desired Skills

  • PHP and Symfony
  • Charting/visualization libraries (d3, Highcharts, etc.)
  • MySQL
  • Message queues and data stores (RabbitMQ, memcached, etc.)
  • UI/UX theory and practice

Travel per year: 1 team meeting, usually 1 conference, more if desired

Percona is the oldest and largest independent MySQL support and consulting company with a global, 24x7 staff of over 100 serving more than 2,000 customers in 50+ countries since 2006.

Description

We’re looking for a full-time web back-end developer to join our team and help continue building the Percona Cloud Tools (https://cloud.percona.com) back end. We use the Go language, so we would love to find a Go programmer, but since Go is a new language we’re looking for any experienced programmer who wants to learn and master Go.

This position is pure web back-end development (but ambitious, talented full-stack developer are welcome too). You should find these keywords familiar and very appealing: API, websocket, REST, data processing, JSON, horizontally scaled, sharded, Redis, mutex, asynchronous, multi-threaded, message queue, SQL, time series. And this acronym should make you feel uneasy: ORM.

We’re an agile, test-driven, and results-focused team with a touch of pragmatic perfectionism. Those aren’t fancy buzzwords; we do stand-up calls, require 100% passing tests, and deploy working code every week.

The work is challenging, but that’s why it’s also fun and rewarding! Plus, our team is small, so you and your work will have a large impact. This is a rare opportunity to start with a great team, on a great project, at a great company with lots of benefits.

Required Skills

  • Professional Go programming experience, or “I really want to learn Go and I will master it quickly!”
  • Test-driven and zealous about testing
  • Pragmatic perfectionism
  • Excellent programming fundamentals (any language, but Go is prefered)
  • Capable with MySQL (basic usage as a programmer)
  • Comfortable with Linux (basic usage as a programmer)
  • Experience working in an agile team
  • Excellent written and verbal English
  • Ability to work with others and independently

    Desired Skills

  • Go language
  • Message queues (RabbitMQ, Redis, etc.)
  • Other databases/data stores (memcached, etc.)
  • College degree
  • Can work during or overlap US time zone

As part of a small, agile development team, you’ll have the opportunity to shape a product and business model from its earliest days in a fun, flexible environment.

You should be able to show us that you’ve built, tested, optimized and scaled Ruby on Rails applications and web services that are a delight to use in every way: Fast, straightforward, elegant and powerful. Rails Dev Position, full time (40hrs/week), work from home

We launched Edgar (http://meetedgar.com) less than 10 months ago and we’ve already grown to 2k paying users. We’re growing crazy fast we need you to take Edgar to the next level. We have a strong customer base that is dying to get their hands on what you’re making - you will not be building something that no one will ever use, or that will be “pivoted” to an unrecognizable death.

We do not have a fancy espresso machine or free beer on Fridays. We will pay you enough to be able to buy all the beer and espresso you like. And your title will be developer, not ninja. (But if you actually are a real ninja, we’re not gonna lie - bonus.)

We’re a virtual company distributed across the US, you’ll be working from your own home wherever you are.

About The Role

You’ll be joining us as a backend developer, working full time on Edgar (http://meetedgar.com), a Ruby on Rails 4 project. Our dev team is small, so you’ll have full responsibility for the features you implement. We have a dedicated front-end developer on the team, so you’ll be mostly focused on backend (maybe 85%). As per usual, we’re into lean and agile development, love Trello, love code reviews, love TDD.

This is a full-time position, with health insurance and 401k starting 3 months after you begin.

About You

You have been a Rails dev for at least 2 years.

Skills/experience you must have:

  • Agile / Scrum development
  • TDD / Rspec
  • Git
  • Heroku
  • Sidekiq / Other delay job

    Bonus stuff:

  • Experience with 3rd party APIs like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Stripe
  • You live in US/Canada so that it’s easy for us to work together live. (The current dev team is west coast, so that’s even better.)

You are a master of the teh googles and figuring stuff out when you hit a roadblock. You’re excellent at problem solving and troubleshooting. You’re looking to work with a productive, organized team to make a great product together!

  • You’re happy as a clam working independently and collaborating with developers in real-time
  • You can communicate good

We run entirely in the cloud on AWS and use services like EC2, OpsWorks, S3, SQS, Kinesis, and Lambda.

Our core services are exposed over a RESTFUL JSON API and we make use of Node.js and C# on our backends.

    Your perks…

You’ll get a rad job at a great company working on interesting and challenging projects. You'll also get paid an excellent salary in US currency and will be covered in benefits.

We’re looking for a backend developer specializing in modern PHP and Laravel who can help us build robust, maintainable web applications and libraries for ourselves and our clients, as well as contribute to the Laravel community.

This position offers a great deal of flexibility, responsibility, and opportunity for growth for the right candidate. We are a small organization, and you will be a key member of our team: your contributions will significantly shape the technical and business direction of our organization.

Who We’re Looking For

The right candidate will be a pragmatic technologist with strong communication skills who can join our technical team as a core member.

This position will:

  • Architect, build, and maintain best-in-class Laravel applications for our clients
  • Apply modern PHP best practices to non-Laravel PHP projects on a limited basis
  • Cultivate and maintain a current understanding of the Laravel codebase and modern PHP best practices, as well as trends in the Laravel and PHP communities
  • Work closely with our team to build and expand our internal platform and tools
  • Contribute to the Laravel community, from new open-source projects to pull requests to blog posts

This position will be a good fit for someone who can demonstrate:

  • Advanced understanding of PHP 5.4+ and PHP development best practices, including use of reflection, traits, interfaces, and dependency injection, belief in SOLID principles, and the ability to write testable code and tests
  • Advanced Laravel development skills, including an in-depth understanding of the Laravel codebase
  • Moderate “everyday” frontend skills: an ability to build pages of moderate complexity with Bootstrap, HTML5, LESS, and JS/jQuery/Browserify
  • Excellent communication and writing skills, and an interest in teaching and sharing expertise

This is a full-time, remote position, and will be best for someone with significant experience working remotely. Our business operates in Eastern time. Most of your work day should fall between 08:00 and 18:00 Eastern time so we can all work together effectively. It is helpful (but not required!) if you’re based in the northeastern United States or Argentina where many of our staff are located.

We work hard to cultivate an open and inclusive work environment, and we strongly value diversity in our coworkers. We encourage members of traditionally underrepresented communities to apply for this position.

Who are we?

Armed with a handful of gifted developers, Big Viking Games sailed into action in 2011, set on taking the social and mobile gaming world by storm. From Facebook to iOS, Big Viking Games has demonstrated a mastery of the free-to-play model on a variety of platforms. In a short time, the company has proudly amassed millions of loyal fans across its many popular titles with no signs of slowing down. In just three years, we've grown from humble beginnings in London, ON to over 65 Vikings with a second studio in Toronto, ON. With even bigger goals for 2015, Big Viking Games will need reinforcements. And that's where you come in.

The nitty-gritty:

Big Viking Games is on the hunt for a Remote Software Developer. This individual will be highly motivated, with an eagle eye for detail that thinks, eats, and dreams in code, in addition to having the discipline to stay on task outside of an office environment. You’ve got a strong knowledge of HTML5, Javascript, Java, Node.js, AS3, and PHP, and for you, awesome code means it’s as beautiful as it is functional and efficient. You have a range of high-quality projects under your belt and you excel in solo and team settings. You’re a big picture thinker who can analyze technical requirements and make sure deadlines are met on time.

Sound good so far? To make it even better, you get to do it from the comfort of your couch, from a sunny patio or your favorite coffee shop. Morning traffic? Say goodbye. Snowmageddon outside? No big deal. Got a favourite onesie? Rock it all day!

The Duties:

  • Design, program, test, optimize, and support an array of web and mobile games from start to finish. Your projects are your babies.
  • Work on various titles and related engines from implementing web interfaces using HTML5, CSS3, AS3, and Javascript, to writing server code using PHP & Java. There is no coding task you can’t handle!
  • Work collaboratively with fellow Vikings from our art & design teams to bring projects to life that shine, inside & out.
  • Identify system issues, anticipate problems, provide estimates, and implement solutions. You’re the Justice League of developers. That’s right. The whole league.
  • Engage in design reviews and discussions to provide feedback. After all, identifying a problem is the first step to solving it.
  • Write functional documentation for projects as necessary. Organization makes every Vikings life easier.
  • Research and stay ahead of the pack on emerging web and game development news and tech. Who said Vikings aren’t well-read?

    The Essentials:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience a developer (huge plus if it's a game development background).
  • Solid understanding of AJAX, web sockets and client server development.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks in a high-pressure environment. Think James Bond, only instead of shooting things, you code.
  • You can flex both analytical and creative muscles. All Vikings have muscles.
  • Fantastic communication skills and the ability to present ideas in a professional and user-friendly manner.

    Bonus Points:

  • You have developed online games before; either for work or play.
  • You adapt quickly and you're not afraid to learn more about coding.
  • You love your craft and your passion for development goes beyond 9 to 5.
  • You have an affinity for gaming.
  • Do you have github account? Or a portfolio with apps / games you've made? Share it with us, we'd love to see it.

    The Loot:

  • Competitive salaries with generous time off policies
  • Health, dental, vision, life and disability benefits
  • Employee stock option plan; this way we all get to celebrate in the success
  • We are proud to be self-funded because this allows us to work and deliver the projects we are proud of

We do continuous integration based on the Github Flow (http://scottchacon.com/2011/08/31/github-flow.html). You’ll merge your HTML+CSS+Javascript into our master build by pushing to github, which will kick off the tests on the CI, and if they pass then your push goes straight to production. So you will be expected to write and pass unit and integration tests using Karma, Mocha and Sauce Labs. You don’t have to invent this test code from scratch, just clone existing test code and adapt it to this purpose.
