Hello! I'm Joe Stych with the marketing team at Zapier. We're looking for someone who can help us communicate the automation power of Zapier to 1.5 million users (and counting).  If you're excited about developing strategies that drive engagement, crafting content that inspires action, and establishing processes for a fast-growing team, read on.

This year

Hi there!

We're looking for someone to join the engineering team at Zapier. Interested in creating a simple product that allows anyone to do complex, incredible things with the world's APIs? Then read on…

About You

You love building and learning new things.

Most of what you'll do day-to-day will involve working with our frontend, design and UX teams to create amazing and intuitive experiences that make it effortless to connect different apps together. We use some pretty cool tech - we're transitioning our Backbone.js frontend to a modern React + Redux architecture and having a lot of fun with it. We love ES6 and are embracing a functional approach to problem solving.

You've worked with teams before on large single-page apps - the frontend framework or language doesn't matter much to us - instead, you understand how to manage complexity and balance technical limitations with product requirements. Simple and sustainable code, performance and correctness are all top of mind for you.

You love working with customers to help understand their needs and translate a product spec into functional, production ready code.

You love doing things efficiently. At Zapier, the work you do will have a disproportionate impact on the business. We believe in systems and processes that let us scale our impact to be larger than ourselves.

You love learning. Engineering is an ever-evolving world. You enjoy playing with new tech and exploring areas that you might not have experience with yet.

You love to set your own course. At Zapier, we have one team meeting each week and one-on-one meetings every month and then we go make things happen.

Things You Might Do

Zapier is a startup, so you'll likely get experience on many different projects across the organization. Here are some things you'll get a taste of:

  • Build and maintain new user facing features or overhaul existing ones.
  • Research, guide and execute broad frontend architecture changes.
  • Work with complex and varied data structures (APIs be crazy!).
  • Ship to hundreds of thousands of users every day.
  • Work and ship product independently.
  • Share what you know and learn either one-on-one or with lightning talks to the group.
  • Give back to the community via open source and blog posts.
  • Help customers via support to ensure they have the best experience possible.

    About Zapier

For the past four years, Zapier has been helping people across the world automate the boring and tedious parts of their job. We do that by helping everyone connect the web applications they already use and love.

We believe that there are jobs a computer is best at doing and that there are jobs a human is best at doing. We want to empower businesses to create processes and systems that let computers do what they are best at doing and let humans do what they are best at doing.

We believe that with the right tools, you can have big impact with less hassle.

We believe in small teams. Small teams are fast and nimble. Small teams mean less bureaucracy and less management and more getting things done.

We believe that credentials don't say everything. Our CTO has a finance degree. Our CEO has an engineering degree. Our CPO has a mechanical engineering degree. What you love doing is way more important than the credentials you have.

    The Whole Package

    Location: Planet Earth.

If you want to work remote, that's great. If you want to work near others, that's cool too. Our team is distributed across California, Colorado, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Illinois and the UK because it lets us work with the best people. You don't have to be located in the USA either. Some of the team live in the United Kingdom, Thailand, New Zealand and Australia. You just have to be talented!

    Compensation:

  • Competitive salary (we don't use remote as an excuse to pay less)
  • Great healthcare + dental + vision coverage
  • Retirement plan with 4% company match
  • Profit sharing
  • 2-3 annual company retreats to awesome places
  • 14 weeks paid leave for new parents
  • Pick your own equipment. We'll set you up with whatever laptop + monitor combo you want plus any software you need.

Unlimited vacation policy (plus we insist you take at least 2 weeks off each year - this isn't a vague policy where unlimited vacation means no vacation). Work-life balance is really important to everyone at Zapier - we believe it and practice it!

Work with awesome companies around the world. We partner great software companies all over the world and you'll constantly get to interact with people from these great companies.

About You
You are a maker at heart. On a daily basis you'll help plan, coordinate, communicate, design, mock, test, and iterate on the core Zapier product. Today, Zapier serves over 1 million users, enabling them to connect 750+ apps in over a million ways, and we're just getting started.
You are technical. Whether you were an engineer in a previous life or you code in your spare time, you'll drive technically complex projects and be responsible for turning that complexity into a simple user experience. You thrive at abstracting away complexity and delivering a joyful, easy-to-use experience to each customer so they can succeed at using the product.

You are a skilled written communicator. Zapier is a 100% remote team and written communication is critical. You'll use summaries and reports to communicate findings, objectives and plans to the team. You're also help manage the day-to-day cadence of projects in our team's Slack channels.

You can prioritize the 5 tasks on your plate, and teammate's plates, too. There's no shortage of things you could be doing at Zapier. You've gotten good at saying no to good ideas and only focusing on the great ideas. You're comfortable setting and communicating project timelines with your immediate project teams and working to scale scope to hit deadlines.

You're willing to do and learn anything to help your team succeed. You'll be primarily working on small fluid project teams with designers, engineers, marketers, and data scientists. You don't need to be an expert in those things you but you should have a basic grasp of their roles and what they bring to the table. You'll act as the glue to fill in any skill gaps.

You design for the web. You've helped build functional web-apps before and understand the ramifications of web-app trends. You probably spend an equal amount of time with Chrome Dev Tools open as you do closed. You have likely built and deployed a basic web app using something like Heroku.

You love talking to users. Product Managers at Zapier are two-sided. One side is figuring out what we should build next. The other side is making it happen. Talking to users serves both sides and is essential to success.

You are data driven. You're comfortable with SQL queries. You understand statistical significance. You're able to use that data to improve the experience for the user and meet the goals of the business.

You love doing things efficiently. At Zapier, the work you do will have a disproportionate impact on the business. We believe in systems and processes that let us scale our impact to be larger than ourselves.

You love to set your own course with our shared set of goals. At Zapier, you'll have a weekly project meetings and then you go make things happen. You default to action.

Things You Might Do
Zapier is a startup, so you'll likely get experience on many different projects across the organization. Here are some things you'll get a taste of:
  • Talk to users and figure out what we should build next
  • Hold Zapier's technical context in your head so you can make good decisions about projects
  • Plan and execute new products and enhancements alongside design, engineering, marketing, and data science
  • Write HTML, CSS, and maybe JS to help perfect and ship a feature
  • Ship to hundreds of thousands of active users
  • Help conduct A/B tests and other experiments
  • Maintain a high level of autonomy
  • Give back to the community via open source and blog posts
  • Help customers via support to ensure they have the best experience possible
  • Experiment: this is a startup so everything can change

Apply

Hi there!

We're looking for someone who loves helping people, solving tricky technical challenges, and developing internal tools to join us as our second dedicated support engineer. If you love interacting with people on a daily basis to help them optimize their work just as much as you love diving deep into code to build features and squash bugs, please read on!

We know applying for and taking on a new a job at any company requires a leap of faith, and we want you to feel both comfortable and excited about applying at Zapier. To share a bit more about how we do things and what our values are, here are some resources that give you an inside look at Zapier. We hope you'll take that leap of faith and apply!

Even though this job description may make it seem like we're looking for a specific candidate, each role inevitably ends up tailored to the person. We're always looking for great people. Regardless of how well you feel you fit the description, we encourage you to apply if you care deeply about building products that simplify the lives of millions of people through automation.

About You

You love helping people. You have empathy for other people and can easily put yourself in their shoes. You recognize that people have different skill sets and that everyone makes mistakes and needs help sometimes. You enjoy directly interacting with people who need assistance and do so in way that leaves them smiling afterwards. You don't take things personally and are good at de-escalating situations when people are frustrated. You are good at explaining technical issues to people who don't have the same technical aptitude you do.

You love figuring things out. You enjoy being presented with situations that don't have an immediately obvious answer and relish finding the solution. You are excited, not intimidated, by problems you don't know the answer to. You love applying the things you have learned to unfamiliar situations in order to see the deeper patterns that connect seemingly disparate issues.

You love code and APIs. You are proficient at reading and writing code and genuinely enjoy making and maintaining software. You’ve worked with many APIs and have a fundamental understanding of how they work. You have a solid intuition for what could be causing an API to respond to a request with an error, and you know the little tricks you can employ to get misbehaving requests back on track. You're comfortable working with code and logs to diagnose, fix, and safeguard against API issues.

You love building tools. You are excited by the opportunity to build internal tools such as chrome extensions, CLIs, and web apps that make you and your teammates more effective and efficient. You enjoy iterating based on constructive feedback from your co-workers to make everyone's tools awesome.

You love doing things efficiently. You are constantly looking for ways to use computers to become more efficient. You get excited about saving clicks, keystrokes, and brain cycles with tools like Alfred and Text Expander.

You love learning. You recognize that engineering is always changing and there will always be more to learn, and that is part of why you enjoy it so much. You think experimenting with new tech is fun.

You love variety. You would enjoy a multifaceted role that interacts with a wide variety of people, topics, and issues. The idea of seeing something new and different every day is invigorating. You are able to learn and act quickly to keep up with rapidly changing and sometimes unfamiliar situations. You can balance a variety of projects and responsibilities without getting overwhelmed.

You love communicating through writing. You have a very strong command of written English and enjoy communicating extensively through writing. Your writing is concise but effective.

You love being part of a team. You enjoy working with other people and contributing to something bigger than yourself. You are committed to building others up. You make everyone around you better.

About Zapier

For the past five years, Zapier has been helping people across the world automate the boring and tedious parts of their job. We do that by helping everyone connect the web applications they already use and love.

We believe in a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment. All teammates at Zapier agree to a code of conduct (https://zapier.com/jobs/zapier-code-of-conduct/).

Things You'll Do

Zapier is a startup and this is a hybrid role, so you'll be involved in a variety of projects around the company. That said, here are some of the things you'll get to focus on as a Support Engineer here:

  • Help customers troubleshoot technical issues with their Zaps via email
  • Help partners identify and resolve problems between their APIs and Zapier
  • Build and maintain internal tools that empower your co-workers
  • Identify and fix bugs in the Zapier codebase
  • Create and improve documentation to help users and partners help themselves
  • Experiment — this is a startup so everything can change

    Compensation

If you want to work remote, that's cool. If you want to work near others, that's cool too. We have team members all around the world in places like the USA, Canada, England, Spain, Portugal, India, Thailand, Australia, New Zealand, and more.

  • Competitive salary (we don't use remote as an excuse to pay less)
  • Great healthcare, dental, and vision coverage
  • 401k retirement plan with 4% company match
  • Profit sharing
  • 2-3 annual company retreats to awesome places
  • 14 weeks paid leave for new parents

    How to Apply

Applying is fairly straightforward but a bit unique. Creativity is highly encouraged! To kick off the hiring process, we ask a few questions that would normally get asked at the start of an interview. This speeds up the process by letting us get to know you better right from the start. Make sure to answer each question and include all requested resources in order for your application to be considered. And don't forget to have some fun with it! :)

Complete this form with answers to the below questions.

  • Tell us why you are a good fit for this role.
  • A user hits an edge case where we’re not parsing their RSS feed correctly. We can't fix it because fixing it would adversely affect most other users. Write an email reply to that user.
  • Tell us about the most difficult API/library/software bug you've tackled. We love real life stories.
  • Send us a link to an app's API docs that you think are well done, and explain why you think they are good.
  • Send us a link or an attachment to some documentation you wrote and maintained.
  • Include links to your portfolio, GitHub profile or provide us with 500+ LOC. We're hoping to see some code you wrote in the past.
  • How did you hear about Zapier?

If you think you might be a good fit, we'd love to hear from you!

About You

You're a maker. You have a broad range of digital design skills and are always learning more. On a daily basis you might be creating mockups, writing HTML and CSS, collecting design feedback, and iterating on the core Zapier product. Today, Zapier serves over 1 million users, enabling them to connect over 700 apps in more ways than we can count.

You love code. You're comfortable designing in the browser with HTML and CSS, and you're not afraid of JS. You'll be committing your work alongside engineers in our production codebase, so you know enough Git to be productive. If you get stuck, you have no ego when the time comes to ask for help and our engineering team is happy to teach. The frontend of Zapier is primarily built in React which you'll get introduced to if you're unfamiliar. We require our designers to write HTML and CSS. If you're a photoshop only designer stay tuned to the jobs pages. There may be other positions for you.
You design for success. You set your own personal opinions of your designs aside and optimize for what helps the end user of your design best achieve their goal. You design with clarity and success in mind. And you enjoy collaborating with data scientists, user researchers and copywriters to improve the success of your designs.

You design for the web. Your visual style is modern and clean. You've built functional web-apps before and understand the ramifications of web-app trends. You spend less time in Sketch than you do in your code editor and browser. You probably spend an equal amount of time with Chrome Dev Tools open as you do closed.

You're a team player. Your design process may include wireframing, low-fidelity mocking, high-fidelity mocking, and plenty of user testing along the way. You don't “toss designs over the wall”, and would dread doing so. Instead, you work closely with engineering, copywriters, customers and other stakeholders to implement your designs, and maintain the implementation of each and every detail, no matter how small it might seem.

You can prioritize the multiple projects on your plate. We're a small team, and there's no shortage of things you could be doing in a day. But you're a pro at prioritizing your work. You're comfortable communicating with your team, and when something is blocking you, you aren't shy about reaching out to fellow teammates to get back up and running as quickly as possible.

You wear many hats. You love working with customers and teammates to help understand customer needs and generate a product spec. You enjoy turning that spec into reality. You understand the complexities your design might introduce, and can clearly work through them with your teammates.
You love doing things efficiently. At Zapier, the work you do will have a disproportionate impact on the business. We believe in systems and processes that let us scale our impact to be larger than ourselves.

You're resourceful. Once we've established a shared set of goals, you set your own course and start exploring ideas. At Zapier, you'll have a weekly project meeting and then you go make things happen. You default to action. You reach out to teammates to learn more about your project, and start collecting feedback as soon, and as often as possible.

We believe in a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment. All teammates at Zapier agree to a code of conduct.

Things You Might Do

  • Continuously iterate on designs and optimize for specific goals, like increasing MRR and conversion rates
  • Help conduct A/B tests and other experiments to guide future design iterations
  • Implement your designs in HTML, CSS, and some JS
  • Create marketing assets and launch landing pages
  • Work and ship product independently
  • Give back to the community via open source and blog posts
  • Help customers via support to ensure they have the best experience possible
  • Ship to thousands of active users every day

The Whole Package

Location: Planet Earth

If you want to work remote, that's cool. If you want to work near others, that's cool too! The current product and design teams are located in Georgia, Illinois, California, Colorado, Ohio, Michigan, Missouri, New York, Canada, and the UK.

Compensation:

  • Competitive salary (we don't use remote as an excuse to pay less)
  • Great healthcare + dental + vision coverage
  • Retirement plan with 4% company match
  • Profit sharing
  • 2 annual company retreats to awesome places
  • 14 weeks paid leave for new parents

Pick your own equipment.

We partner with the best software companies in the world and you'll constantly get to interact with people from these great companies.

Hello, I'm Danny Schreiber, the director of marketing at Zapier. We're a fast-growing, fully remote company changing the way people work. More than one million individuals have turned to our tool to integrate their apps — Zapier connects over 600 services, such as Trello, Dropbox and MailChimp — and build automated workflows that help them reclaim their time.

Shortly after our launch in 2012, we unveiled the Zapier Developer Platform to let any app maker integrate with Zapier. Since that time, companies like Slack, Todoist and Typeform have used the platform. By year's end, we'll have more than 1,000 partners—double the number we had in January.

Now, we're looking hire a Developer Marketing Manager dedicated to our Developer Platform to help us build an exceptional user experience for our rapidly growing community. This new position will be at the center of improving education and marketing materials for our partners and their user bases.

Here are some things you might do:

  • Create content that reaches new partners and developers
  • Build a lifecycle marketing campaign that strengthens partner relationships
  • Launch new Developer Platform products and features
  • Evangelize the power of Zapier to the broader SaaS community
  • Maintain the Developer Platform style guide

Hello there!

Zapier is looking for an engineer to join the platform team at Zapier and help grow and maintain our fleet of API integrations. If you think APIs will define the future of the web, read on…

About You

You love APIs, even when they don't always love you back. You've written APIs before and you consume them with ease. You are persistent at sniffing out issues - especially useful when APIs get weird and break. Your friends might call you Sherlock Holmes or Nancy Drew when it comes to APIs.

You know the HTTP spec inside and out and have opinions on API design, but are pragmatic, sympathetic and understand that APIs are only useful when they're shipped. Done is better than perfect.

In addition to digging into API specs and solving problems using code, you also enjoy working with people. Communicating with partners and developers over email or chat is something that you'd enjoy doing. You are able to empathize with developers of all levels and backgrounds, in order to help them get things done.

You love to set your own course. At Zapier, we have one team meeting each week and one-on-one meetings every month and then we go make things happen.
