\nCrunch.io, part of the YouGov PLC, is seeking a talented, motivated, and versatile human to help lead the development of our R data science products. Crunch provides a modern platform for survey data analysis, and a central feature of our product is the ability to manipulate and analyze datasets stored in the cloud using R. As senior R developer, you will have three main responsibilities. First, you will work with the rest of our team to design and implement novel features that deliver real value and change our clients’ workflows for the better. Second, as the primary point of contact between our R user community and the development team, you will serve as their voice in product development. And third, you will often directly help clients manipulate and explore data using Crunch, including helping clients design and implement workflows that incorporate Crunch.  \n\nKey responsibilities:\n\n\n* Teaching users how to work with the library through documentation and direct conversations.\n\n* Writing scripts that help clients implement Crunch and make it a part of their workflow, including ETL, data analysis, and outputs.  \n\n* Developing and maintaining our core R packages, including new feature design, comprehensive testing, and documentation\n\n* Supporting our community of R users by responding to feature requests and triaging bug reports\n\n* Evangelizing our product and educating our R user base by contributing to our technical blog and helping enrich our support documentation\n\n* Translating API speak to R that feels natural and native\n\n* Engaging with and contributing to the broader open source R ecosystem\n\n\n\n\nDepending on your interests and skills, there are opportunities to get involved in:\n\n\n* API design: developing good conventions that enable our platform to scale and make it easy for client applications to consume them\n\n* JavaScript development, helping our frontend developers implement features you've utilized in R\n\n* Product management, building on your interactions with our users to shape our product roadmap and feature design\n\n* Python development, ranging from implementing APIs you need for the R packages, to  statistical modeling, numerical computing, machine learning, and natural language processing\n\n\n\n\nIn any given week, you might implement an R interface for a new API our backend has added, write a blog post introducing that new feature, track down a bug report from a user, write a test that reproduces the issue, and assist customers in implementing Crunch via the Crunch R packages. \n\nQualifications:\n\n\n* Expert-level skills in R, including experience delivering code that others rely on to do their work. Prior experience creating and maintaining R packages is highly valued.\n\n* Serious commitment to high development standards, including comprehensive testing, in whatever language you're working\n\n* Demonstrated ability to work with a team of peers, understanding and respecting the responsibilities and expertise developers, designers, QA folks, and others bring to the project\n\n* Eagerness to take ownership of projects and deliver results on schedule\n\n* Experience in a "data science", such as social science, market research, or data visualization, is a plus.\n\n\n

\nCrunch.io, part of YouGov PLC are seeking talented, motivated engineers to join our fully remote team building interactive data applications. As a part of growing front-end team, you will work with four experienced JavaScript developers and two designers constantly improving our users’ experience. You will also collaborate with others throughout our organization and technology stack to build products that are revolutionizing the way our clients achieve their business goals.\n\nOn the front-end team, we feel strongly about developing solutions that are both technically and aesthetically sound. We invite you to bring your experience and perspective to conversations about the future growth of our applications and environment. We work closely together, with a healthy and non-combative review process aimed at improving code as well as developing each other’s skills. In short, we strive to write solid, thoroughly tested, and readable code; and we are seeking a new contributor to our already highly effective team.\n\nIn a senior engineering role, you will immediately begin to add value to a complex application that clients depend on to get their jobs done. You will learn to refine not only your own code but the Crunch APIs that the application is built upon. Your responsibilities will include ownership of new features, the resolution of bugs, and regression-proofing through comprehensive test coverage. In any given week, you might:\n\n\n* Work on new features with other front end team members\n\n* Triage, unravel, test, and resolve bugs and issues\n\n* Update existing code in parallel with back end changes to ensure uninterrupted operation\n\n* Review your colleagues’ work on pull requests\n\n* Propose, discuss, and debate technology improvements, code organization, design patterns, and conventions employed in the front-end development environment\n\n\n\n\nFront-end developers on our platform are first-class team members. Although your focus is primarily on JavaScript, you will gain familiarity with the entire system. Some of the technologies that enable us to achieve our well-designed, efficient, and performant applications are:\n\n\n* ECMAScript\n\n* Webpack + Babel (ES6 modules)\n\n* React + Redux\n\n* Immutable data objects\n\n* AngularJS 1.5\n\n* Styled Components\n\n* Stylus\n\n* Unit testing with Jest + Enzyme for React (we have over 5500 unit tests across our app)\n\n* Jenkins for continuous integration and deployment\n\n\n\n\n If you have experience or interest in these additional areas, you may have the opportunity to work with them as part of your role:\n\n\n* End-to-end testing (we use Nightwatch.js and Docker)\n\n* Mobile design / touch interfaces\n\n\n\n\nQualifications:\n\n\n* A firm command of JavaScript and, more importantly, an appetite for continual improvement and growth\n\n* 5-10 years of JavaScript engineering experience\n\n* Familiarity with JavaScript frameworks and libraries for building web applications\n\n* Commitment to high development standards, including comprehensive testing in whatever language you’re working\n\n* Demonstrated ability to work with team of peers, understanding and respecting the responsibilities and expertise that developers, designers, QA folks, and others bring to the project\n\n* Ability to provide reasonable estimates on work, meet deadlines, and take ownership and responsibility\n\n\n
