We are a DevOps organization building a 12-factor microservices application; we practice small, fast cycles of rapid improvement and full exposure to the entire infrastructure, but we don't take anything to extremes.\n\n\n\n\nBasic Qualifications\n\n\n\n\n* Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent work experience\n\n* Significant experience with Golang (or Java), MySQL, and Kafka\n\n* Excellent written and verbal communication skills\n\n* 7+ years professional experience in software development with C, C++, Java, or C#\n\n* 2+ years of experience with RESTful APIs, microservices, or other network services\n\n* Significant exposure to cloud-based software development with AWS, Azure, or similar\n\n* A passion for highly effective teams and development processes\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPreferred Qualifications\n\n\n\n\n* Master's Degree in Computer Science\n\n* 10+ years of experience in software development\n\n* 3+ years of data-focused design and development experience\n\n* 3+ years of experience with AWS\n\n* Capable of deep technical understanding and discussion of databases, software and service design, systems, and storage\n\n* Expertise in problem solving and analyzing large scale distributed systems and critical production service environments\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNote to Agencies and Recruiters: VividCortex does not engage with unsolicited contact from agencies or recruiters. You are at the intersection of data, engineering, and product, and run the strategy and tactics of how we store and process massive amounts of performance metrics and other data we measure from our customers' database servers.\n\nOur platform is written in Go and hosted on the AWS cloud. It uses Kafka, Redis, and MySQL for data storage and analysis. Diversity is important to us, and we welcome and encourage applicants from all walks of life and all backgrounds.\n\n\n\n\n\nResponsibilities:\n\n\n\n\n* Work with others to define, and propose for approval, a modern data platform design strategy and matching architecture and technology choices to support it, with the goals of providing a highly scalable, economical, observable, and operable data platform for storing and processing very large amounts of data within tight performance tolerances.\n\n* Perform high-level strategy and hands-on infrastructure development for the VividCortex data platform, developing and deploying new data management services both in our existing data center infrastructure, and in AWS.\n\n* Collaborate with engineering management to drive data systems design, deployment strategies, scalability, infrastructure efficiency, monitoring, and security.\n\n* Discover, define, document, and design scalable backend storage and robust data pipelines for different types of data streams.\n\n* Write code, tests, and deployment manifests and artifacts, using CircleCI, Git and GitHub, pull requests, issues, etc. Collaborate with other engineers on code review and approval.\n\n* Measure and improve the code and system performance and availability as it runs in production.\n\n* Support product management in prioritizing and coordinating work on changes to our data platform, and serve as a lead on  user-focused technical requirements and analysis of the platform.\n\n* Help provide customer support, and you'll pitch in with other departments, such as Sales, as needed.\n\n* Rotate through on-call duty.\n\n* Understand and enact our security posture and practices.\n\n* Continually seek to understand and improve performance, reliability, resilience, scalability, and automation. We are a DevOps organization building a 12-factor microservices application; we practice small, fast cycles of rapid improvement and full exposure to the entire infrastructure, but we don't take anything to extremes.\n\nResponsibilities:\n\n\n\n\n* Make our platform operate and scale in a lights-out fashion, without manual intervention. Plan and build for resilience at 10x scale. Our goal is that systems should scale linearly with our customer growth, and the effort of maintaining the systems should scale sub-linearly.\n\n* Define, code, and execute "infrastructure as code" definitions of our systems and how they operate and interconnect.\n\n* Support the definition of the next generation of our platform.\n\n* Analyze and eliminate actual and potential threats to security, availability, and performance.\n\n* Deploy, observe, and operate the systems you build. You'll present this info to our customers and prospects who are in a product trial.\n\n* Participate in the sales process as a product evangelist. You will serve as a technical expert on the product to illustrate how VividCortex solves customer pain points.\n\n* Develop methods of predicting account growth, success, and churn, and take action on accounts that might be at risk.\n\n* Collaborate with marketing, sales, and engineering to ensure that product and positioning needs, as well as other sales opportunities, are fed back to each team.\n\n* Attend industry and partner conferences, and speak/demo VividCortex to current and future customers. Activities may include speaking at conferences, conducting webinars, blogging and other customer-facing outlets. \n\n* Work together with the engineering team and the front-end  and back-end engineering managers to implement, deliver, and drive adoption of product features.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPreferred Qualifications\n\n\n\n\n* Experience as a database administrator, devops engineer, or operations.\n\n* Expertise in open source database management, with a particular preference for mastery of MongoDB, MySQL or PostgreSQL. Experience with Percona Server is a plus.\n\n* Fluent knowledge of Linux operating systems and cloud environments such as AWS.\n\n* Proficient in other application performance monitoring products, having used them on the job, so you can apply that to your work here.
