\n\n\n\nSummary\n\n\n\nAbout The Tesco Technology Infrastructure Team\n\nThe Infrastructure Engineering team design, develop and operate all infrastructure used by Tesco Technology across our data centers, offices, stores and distribution centers. This encompasses multiple domains; private and public cloud, connectivity, end-user computing, CI/CD and monitoring toolkit. This includes both 3rd party and internally developed infrastructure applications and infrastructure that support the wider Tesco business.\n\nKey activities include:\n\n* Designs, develops and operates the Infrastructure platforms that allow development teams and business colleagues to consume infrastructure.\n * Designs, develops and operates the automation to allow Infrastructure platforms to be consumed in a controlled, auditable and repeatable manner. \n * Setting the strategy, objectives and high-level plans for infrastructure.\n * Works with development teams to collaborate in creating appropriate infrastructure solutions.\n * Evaluating partners, software and hardware and finding the right mix to deliver the strategy.\n * Driving innovation at Tesco through infrastructure transformation.\n * Defining and overseeing standards and simplification across the estate.\n * Designing, delivering and operating new and re-usable infrastructure solutions.\n\nThe Infrastructure team are supporting both the current Infrastructure and also the work required to continue the transformation of Tesco Technologies Infrastructure to modern platforms that can be easily consumed through self-service APIs, automatically handle failures and use best of breed modern technologies.\n \n\nPackage\n\n\n\nWe offer excellent benefits that help make Tesco a great place to work. I will recruit and support the development of members of staff.\n * Ensure my team exceeds required quality standards, commitments and objectives. \n * Drives adoption of new tools and techniques being able to understand their value and impact.\n * Understand current application development techniques (12 factor app) and their implications to infrastructure\n * Build a team with structure and capabilities to support incidents in live and support the relationship to Engineering. \n * Keep my technical skills up to date and keep track of new technologies, understanding how they might benefit the Technology team and wider Tesco.\n * Manage team performance and improve capabilities by defining training plans, objectives, providing feedback \n * Spot talent/high performance in the team and providing timely reward and recognition.\n * Managing external suppliers and responsible for measuring, improving service provided.\n * Managing stakeholder communication and escalations \n * This role will best suit an individual who enjoys working as part of a team, is well organised, pragmatic and a lateral thinker with an inquisitive mind who is motivated to make change for the better and, most importantly, puts our customers first.\n\nIdeal Candidate\n\n\n\nKey Skills and Experience \n\nYou'll need to have demonstrated experience of:\n\n* Previous experience working in a DevOps environment and building teams to deliver Infrastructure solutions in an automated way. \n * Previous experience at designing solutions for large complex global organisations.\n o Stakeholder Management\n o Technical Skills in:\n o VMWare\n o Openstack\n o Windows\n o Linux\n o Networking\n o Desired State Configuration Tools\n o CI/CD\n\nPersonal\n\n* Flexibility, ability to plan and organise, responsiveness, creativity, self-starter \n * Able to build solid working relationships with peers and senior leadership \n * Ability to demonstrate strong written, verbal communication and presentation skills to all levels of seniority and disciplines within the organisation.

You will likely have made open source contributions and have a Github account. You wont just have experience of different platforms and technologies but opinions on which are good and where to use them. \n You will be used to working on projects with a growing team and have extensive experience writing APIs in an agile environment. You will likely have worked in internationally distributed teams.\n We expect to see some or all of the following:\n * Good understanding of object-oriented design and data structures\n * Good understanding of algorithm design, problem solving, and complexity analysis\n * Proficiency in at least one modern programming language such as Java, Go, Rust, Clojure, F#\n * Experience of frameworks such as Vertx\n * Experience with relational and non relational DBs\n * Experience with Cloud Infrastructure AWS\n * Experience with Ansible (or similar like Chef or Puppet) and Maven (or similar like Ant or Gradle)\n * Experience in tools such as: Jira, Jenkins and Git(Hub)\n * A desire to write readable, maintainable, modular and extendable code\n * Experience in full development life cycle; design, coding, test, build, QA, deployment and maintenance\n * Exposure to the DevOps model\n * Experience in Lean and Agile environments and understanding of principles behind methodologies such as: BDD, ATDD and TDD\n * A desire to lead, mentor, up-skill and inspire fellow engineers\n * Solid enterprise / commercial development experience\n * A strong team player with the ability to influence and lead stakeholders when necessary\n * Demonstrable ability to self-manage, be proactive, take ownership, build relationships and drive solutions through from inception to production\n
