We have lots of ideas for cool projects to do around Snowplow - and if you have any suggestions of your own, we would love to hear them!{linebreak}{linebreak}This is a paid internship; we will consider remote candidates who are up to UTC +/- 5 hours maximum. The support that we provide to our customers is a core part of the Managed Service offering, and we strive to provide the best technical support of any analytics vendor.{linebreak}{linebreak}We have implemented a full “follow the sun” support model at Snowplow, with our three support engineers working in three well-distributed time zones (Alberta, Canada; Berlin, Germany; Krasnoyarsk, Russia). We are now looking to hire a second support engineer in Europe, in the UTC+0 to UTC+1 time zone range. We can be slightly flexible around this timezone range, but this is not a role for a candidate working nights.{linebreak}{linebreak}This is a support engineering role - not a support agent role. We are looking for candidates who can learn, troubleshoot and explain the many complex technical systems that make up the Snowplow offering. We expect you to have an analytical mind, a high level of customer empathy and an enthusiasm for improving processes and systems. Task automation is essential as our customer base grows, because our “infrastructure estate” scales linearly with our customer numbers, unlike most software businesses.{linebreak}{linebreak}Our roadmap includes:{linebreak}{linebreak}{linebreak}* Deploying, orchestrating and monitoring Snowplow on GCP, Azure and on-premise, not just AWS{linebreak}{linebreak}* “One click” infrastructure deployment and maintenance{linebreak}{linebreak}* Building self-healing and self-upgrading infrastructure, which learns how to optimize itself for cost, performance and reliability{linebreak}{linebreak}{linebreak}{linebreak}{linebreak}This is an enormously ambitious undertaking but also, we hope, a hugely exciting infrastructure automation challenge!{linebreak}{linebreak}Technologies:{linebreak}{linebreak}Today, our in-house stack uses pragmatic technologies including Docker, Ansible, Consul, CloudFormation, bash and Golang to manage our internal and customer infrastructure.{linebreak}{linebreak}For our next level of automation, we are now exploring tools such as Terraform, Kubernetes and Vault.{linebreak}{linebreak}Responsibilities:{linebreak}{linebreak}* The development of software for the purposes of automating, monitoring and maintaining client-deployed and Snowplow-internal infrastructure and services{linebreak}{linebreak}* Providing deep technical support to internal and client teams{linebreak}{linebreak}* Performing planned upgrades and modifications to customer infrastructure{linebreak}{linebreak}* Handling high-severity internal or customer incidents, ensuring we meet all SLAs{linebreak}{linebreak}{linebreak}{linebreak}Within the software engineering side you will be responsible for the implementation, deployment and stability of your systems and services.  You will own software end to end with a high expectation of ownership over anything that is deployed.{linebreak}{linebreak}Within the operational side you will join our on-call process for incident resolution, and be in the assignment for the regular client infrastructure work, with a strong mandate to continuing automation.{linebreak}{linebreak}What we are looking for:{linebreak}{linebreak}This role will be a great fit for somebody who:{linebreak}{linebreak}{linebreak}* Has deep knowledge of Linux, networking, containers and similar, able to troubleshoot complex problems on individual servers and distributed systems{linebreak}{linebreak}* Has worked with at least one of: Amazon Web Services, GCP or Azure{linebreak}{linebreak}* Has been part of an on-call rotation{linebreak}{linebreak}* Has interacted directly with customers to solve their specific technical issues{linebreak}{linebreak}* Is comfortable scripting in one or more of: Bash, Python, Ruby or Perl{linebreak}{linebreak}* Is comfortable programming in one or more of: Java, Scala, Golang or Python{linebreak}{linebreak}{linebreak}{linebreak}{linebreak}This role would be a great fit for a software engineer or systems administrator who wants to transition into a full SRE role.{linebreak}{linebreak}Security:{linebreak}{linebreak}The integrity of our customers' systems and data underpin everything we do at Snowplow.
