\nWhat you would do: The Mezzanine team is looking for a flexibly capable engineer with experience and skills that can be applied to a wide variety of challenging problems. The right candidate for this role is equally comfortable building a richly interactive, real-time, multi-user, distributed system and debugging low level performance bottlenecks in a Linux stack. Table stakes include the judgement to apply the right programming language and tools for the job at hand, the ability to produce clean code supported with extensive automation, and a desire to find elegant solutions to hard, under specified problems.\n\nWe are a small team that enjoys working together on one of the coolest technologies being built today. Every member plays a critical part in our success and that will be especially true of the candidate that fills this key role.\n\nRequirements:\n• Several years of experience shipping world class software products or a strong track record of academic research\n• Familiarity with C++ development on Linux\n• Enthusiasm for implementing radical, new user interfaces and for building cutting-edge backend infrastructure\n• Experience with test driven development\n\nNice to have:\n• Experience with real time interactive systems\n• Mastery of C++ and OpenGL\n• Knowledge of reliable distributed systems concepts and architectures• Knowledge of video rendering or streaming \n• Experience with multi-platform development\n\nBenefits and perks:\n• Competitive compensation package of salary and stock options\n• Medical, dental, and vision insurance\n• 401K plan\n• Gourmet lunches 3 days/week\n\n*Please include relevant examples of your work, such as: a link to or bundle of code you’ve written, pointers to topical prose, a link to a mailing list thread in which you submit patches or offer contributions to a project, slides from a presentation you’ve given, or other relevant work.

\nOblong is currently seeking a Systems Engineer to join our solutions team. Oblong's Solutions team builds immersive custom experiences that seamlessly knit together millions of pixels across multiple surfaces, screens, and interaction modes.  We have Linux systems in the field on nearly every continent.  In this role, you will be the owner of the systems that our team ships, at the nuts and bolts level: hardware, kernels, drivers, drives, and peripherals.  You will chart our deployment strategy, build out our monitoring and logging infrastructure, and take on any tasks which might be classified asDevOps. You get a buzz from transforming a manual and tedious set of actions and into something automated, organized, and slick. You have strong communication skills; in fact, you instinctively feel that the job isn't done until it's documented and packaged so that others can follow in your footsteps.\n\n\n\nPrimary responsibilities:\n• Keep Oblong Linux infrastructure running in the field: monitor systems, deploy updates, and debug failures\n• Advise on configuration of new systems: kernel versions, networking, logging, etc\n• Occasional travel to help deploy new systems (3 to 4 times per year)\n• Help us improve our software deployment infrastructure and processes\n• Help us achieve reproducibility in all things, whether through documentation, tooling, or both (but not through ad-hoc scripting ;))\n• Triage issue reports from the field and either resolve them directly or relay to software engineers\n• Documentation: like a boss\n\nRequired:\n• Bachelors degree in an engineering discipline is preferred\n• Deep experience with Linux, preferably at the kernel and driver level\n• Strong working knowledge of networking (firewalls, VLAN's, routing)\n• Experience supporting systems remotely\n• Willing to travel 5-10%\n• Excellent verbal and written communication skills\n\n\n\nBenefits and perks:\n• Competitive compensation package of salary and stock options\n• A healthy work environment -- no 'work hard play hard' nonsense\n• Medical, dental, and vision insurance\n• 401K plan\n• Gourmet lunches 3 days/week\n• Located in the Arts District in DTLA

\nWhat you would do: Oblong's Solutions team builds immersive custom experiences that seamlessly knit together millions of pixels across multiple surfaces, screens, and interaction modes.  Most other interaction programming is done in flatland or small 3D islands; we build interfaces at scale, in one unified frame of reference that is measured in meters rather than pixels. This position is based in our Boston office. \n\nIn this role you would program Oblong spatial experiences in C++ (with additional Javascript, Python, and Ruby as needed). You might find yourself optimizing low-level asset-handling algorithms one day, and the next day working through the details of a UI problem presenting 2D and 3D data across a 40' wall display coupled with a touch table.\n\nYou would move comfortably between developing new application features; working with our clients to validate and refine those features; and coming up with new ways to stress test and integration test those same features, in their complex interactions with different components in a room-sized system. You would learn as you go, creating new components and abstractions that help the whole team do it better the next time around.\n\nYou have the ability to self-manage: you can take a small project from start to finish with little oversight. You have a demonstrated record of doing so.\n\nYou prefer software solutions that are simple (as opposed to convenient, familiar, or conventional). Your code avoids side effects and mutation.\n\nYou have strong communication skills; in fact, you instinctively feel that the job isn't done until it's documented and packaged so that others can follow in your footsteps.\n\n Required:\n\n• Fluency in C++ or other systems-capable language\n• Fluency in a dynamic language such as Python, Ruby, JS, etc.\n• Minimum 5 years experience delivering production-quality code, preferably with 3D graphics involved\n• Ability to communicate very effectively in writing and in person\n• Proficiency in Unix\n• Willing to travel 5-10%\n• Bachelor’s degree (engineering discipline preferred)\n\nNice to have:\n\n• Real world experience with the modern OpenGL rendering pipeline\n• Creative coding experience (OpenFrameworks, Cinder, etc.)\n• Scars from having worked with audio or video pipelines\n\nBenefits and perks:\n\n• Competitive compensation package of salary and stock options\n• A healthy work environment -- no 'work hard play hard' nonsense\n• Medical, dental, and vision insurance\n• 401K plan\n\n* Please include relevant examples of your work, such as: a link to or bundle of code you’ve written, pointers to topical prose, a link to a mailing list thread in which you submit patches or offer contributions to a project, slides from a presentation you’ve given, or other relevant work.
