First things first: This is a remote (work from home over the Internets), full-time, salaried position. A legit job-job, albeit one you can do from your couch, kitchen table, or inflatable kiddie pool.

Who You Are

We're looking for a full-time full stack Rails developer to help build and maintain our social media management tool, Edgar. Edgar launched in mid-2014 and has thousands of happy, beautiful, paying customers that will use the features you build every day. We’re growing ~20% month on month. (No pressure, right?)

You’ll be working on big, exciting projects like optimizing our Sidekiq queuing system to work JIT, migrating our customer analytics code to use a middle layer like segment.io, and getting our onboarding juuuust right so that every user has a mind-blowing experience from their very first login.

Right now, our team of senior Rails developers includes one front-end, one back-end, and one full stack. (With a fourth, we can finally start that barbershop quartet we’ve been talking about.)

Our stack is Rails 4, Ruby 2.2, Heroku, Postgres, Sidekiq + Redis, HAML, Coffeescript and React.js.

Our Dev Process

We do a fair amount of pair programming and a lot of code reviews, we love solid tests and CI, and we’re pretty close to CD. Basically? We’re constantly improving our process so we can create an ideal developer environment - low overheads, high transparency, and as flat as we can be. Estimates were inaccurate and irrelevant, so we dropped ‘em. Artificial deadlines weren’t doing it for us, so we switched from scrum to pure kanban and never looked back. When something isn’t working, we’re not afraid to throw it out and try something new - so if you have exciting ideas about the dev process and how to make your own job even easier, you’ll fit right in. (We’re open-minded like that.)

We’re striving for a flat organization, so you’ll be choosing your own priorities from incoming stories (with support from customer service, marketing, and the rest of the company, of course). You’ll also have final responsibility for features, from inception all the way through to delivery, so your teammates know exactly who to shower with praise when you score a big win.

Benefits

We cover 75% of your health insurance for you and your family. We do 401k matching. We’re really into ongoing education, so of course we’ll cover any education materials you need to enhance your mad skills. (Right now we’re looking into using airplay.com to get some external pair programming in, too, so that’s cool.) We don’t have a fancy espresso machine or free beer on Fridays. We will pay you enough to be able to buy all the beer and espresso you like.

About Us

We’re a small team of 15 people, all working remotely across the US and Canada. We do a lot of collaborating and meme-swapping on Slack, along with virtual team meetings on the regular and a twice-annual meetup week where we work together on cool projects all day and generally make fools of ourselves all night (hope you like karaoke). We’re proudly bootstrapped and profitable, which means we get to turn down VC money a lot and keep doing things the way we like. We’re big fans of the Thoughtbot Playbook. Oh, and doughnuts! We love those, too, man.

Requirements
  • Senior level Rails skills and 3 years+ experience
  • Live anywhere in the USA or Canada
  • You love Ruby and you love Rails
  • Passionate about improving the dev process and recognize the value of an awesome company culture
  • Not a jerk

Facebook Advertising Specialist for MeetEdgar.com
keywords: facebook fb ads, online acquisition, social media advertising, ppc, paid acquisition

We’re looking for one amazing human (or several dogs in a trenchcoat) to oversee and execute our Edgar Facebook advertising strategy. Facebook has already been a super successful channel for us, and we’re looking to ramp up our budget and use it to get even MORE customers. You’re the one to make it happen!

Edgar launched one year ago, and we already have thousands of happy, paying, fabulous customers - and we know there are thousands more out there just waiting to discover us via YOUR brilliant ads! Right now, we’re growing ~20% month over month, and we bet you can help make that number even more awesome. (No pressure, right?)

Who You Are

You are an expert-level Facebook advertiser. You love spending all day with your nose in a spreadsheet digging through details and crunching numbers like a big ol’ nerd. You are the best out there at data-driven decision making. You know when to test something, when to stick with what you’ve got, and when to start over entirely. You get a not-so-secret thrill from driving down our CAC - why, just thinking about it makes you get all tingly!

You have at least two years experience in Facebook specifically. (Well, in Facebook ads. Not just in liking funny cat videos. Though that’s valuable in its own right.)

Your Resources

You will have full control over our FB ad strategy and execution. No one will be overseeing or telling you what to do - if you prefer someone breathing down your neck, this probably isn’t for you. You’ll have a designer and writer to support you in creative. Our ad budget is currently about $35k/mo., and you’ll have full liberty to grow that as long as it’s profitable! Seriously, you just focus on being awesome and we’ll make it rain all over that budget.

You’re not just brainstorming the ads - you’re also the one in the trenches setting up, managing, and evaluating them. That means you need to love getting your hands dirty in the nitty-gritty details. Facebook ads will be YOUR baby, and you get to control the workflow, the process, and the outcomes. You’re a control freak? GOOD.

We will bow to you as our resident Facebook ad expert, and bestow upon you fame and glory. You’ll even help us expand our paid acquisition team in 2015 and add more people as amazing are you are! (If any such people exist. Because come ON, right?)

About Us

You can check out http://meetedgar.com/careers/ to learn more about us, but here’s the CliffsNotes version:

We’re a small team of 10 people, all working remotely across the US. We do a lot of collaborating and meme-swapping on Slack, along with virtual team meetings on the regular and a twice-annual meetup week where we work together on cool projects all day and generally make fools of ourselves all night.

We’re proudly bootstrapped and profitable, which means we get to turn down VC money a lot and keep doing things the way we like. We’re big fans of Chet Holmes. We’re also big fans of doughnuts.

Benefits

We cover 75% of health insurance for you and your family. We do 401k matching. We’re really into ongoing education, so of course we’ll cover any education materials you need to enhance your mad skills. We don’t have a fancy espresso machine or free beer on Fridays. We will pay you enough to be able to buy all the beer and espresso you like.

Requirements

- You would call yourself an expert in Facebook ads and have at least two years experience
- You live anywhere in the USA, Canada, or an International Space Station that operates in these time zones
- You are a data-driven thinker
- You are passionate about making everyone jealous of how much business we drive from our Facebook ads
- An awesome company culture is really important to you in deciding where to work (spoiler alert: we have one!)

Salary USD 40,000 — USD 65,000
Equity 0.0% — 1.0%

ABOUT THE ROLE

You will be fully responsible for running the strategy and execution of all online paid advertising. Basically your job is to get as many quality customers for the lowest price possible! You'll be primarily working in Facebook ads.

This is an extremely close-up, detailed position where you’ll be actively managing all of our Facebook ad, twitter ad, retargeting, and PPC campaigns. This is a fast-paced, constantly changing role and you have to be extremely agile, adaptable, and data-oriented.

You need to be someone who is excellent at analyzing advertising both from a qualitative and quantitative perspective. You need to keep a close eye on our numbers to ensure that our CAC is within range, and have a good intuitive feel for what works and what doesn’t.

You will have a writer/designer team at your disposal BUT you need to be proficient in both of these areas, as you’ll often need to tweak copy or make basic graphics on your own.

Your Duties:

  • Put together a detailed advertising strategic plan
  • Set up, run and monitor all advertising, day in and day out - big management, testing, data collection and analysis, etc
  • Explore and strategically expand into other advertising platforms (we’re currently active on Facebook Ads & banner retargeting, and would like you to expand into Twitter Ads, Google PPC, and whatever other platforms will be profitable.)

We launched Edgar (http://meetedgar.com) less then 10 months ago and we've already grown to 2k+ paying users. We're growing crazy fast (30% month on month) we need you to take Edgar to the next level. We have a strong customer base that is dying to get their hands on what you're making - you will not be building something that no one will ever use, or that will be “pivoted” to an unrecognizable death.

We do not have a fancy espresso machine or free beer on Fridays. We will pay you enough to be able to buy all the beer and espresso you like. And your title will be developer, not ninja. (But if you actually are a real ninja, we’re not gonna lie - bonus.)

We’re a virtual company distributed across the US, you’ll be working from your own home wherever you are.

About The Role

You’ll be joining us as a senior backend developer, working full time on Edgar (http://meetedgar.com), a Ruby on Rails 4 project. Our dev team is small, so you'll have full responsibility for the features you implement. There is a dedicated front-end developer on the team, so you'll be mostly focused on backend (maybe 85%). As per usual, we're into lean and agile development, love Trello, love code reviews. We're looking for someone who can lead themselves with minimal overhead, who takes ownership and who codes with users in mind. You've got to care a lot about Ruby and Rails and know in your heart what beautiful code is.

This is a full-time position, with health insurance and 401k starting 3 months after you begin.

About You

You have been a Rails dev for at least 3 years.

Skills/experience you must have:

This is an extremely close-up, detailed position where you’ll be actively managing all of our Facebook ad, twitter ad, retargeting, and PPC campaigns. This is a fast-paced, constantly changing role and you have to be extremely agile, adaptable, and data-oriented.

You need to be someone who is excellent at analyzing advertising both from a qualitative and quantitative perspective. You need to keep a close eye on our numbers to ensure that our CAC is within range, and have a good intuitive feel for what works and what doesn’t.

  • Oversee metrics and tracking to make sure we know exactly what’s working and what isn’t
  • Own our advertising funnels and optimize every step - making decisions about where to focus our resources and identifying growth opportunities
  • Test our assumptions - think beyond the status quo and what our competitors are doing
  • Oversee brand/messaging consistency in advertising
  • Develop marketing budgets and forecasts
  • Report our results to the marketing team
  • Increase overall growth while working to decrease CAC
  • Actively keep up with latest training and best practices to make sure your skills are up to date across all platforms

ABOUT YOU

You live and breathe paid acquisition, and have extensive experience in executing successful campaigns. SaaS experience is a plus, but not necessary. You are extremely results oriented, doing what works to get customers instead of what looks cool. And you love marketing with some humor and personality.

You will be working from home so you have to be killer at managing your own time and workspace. You will be largely a lone wolf in this role - you are our online advertising team within our marketing department. You will have writers and designers to help you create content, but you will be the only one responsible for your results.

This means you will not have a team of people in the same role to train or mentor you - this is awesome if you love having full ownership, but if you crave more collaboration in your day-to-day, or enjoy working in a larger, enterprise team this is not the role for you.

You have:
  • Top expert-level experience in Facebook Ads, our main channel
  • Extensive experience in other paid acquisition channels
  • A+ level communication skills - both verbal and in writing.
  • Expertise in launching and managing comprehensive, measurable online advertising campaigns
  • A data-driven mind - you always check the data before making a decision
  • The ability to sift through data and recognize what matters and what doesn’t - you can synthesize information into a testable, impactful hypothesis
  • A talent for turning one-time success into ongoing, automated marketing systems
  • The ability to self-teach - to find your own resources (you will be the only person on this role, so there won’t be someone above you to mentor you)
  • Huge attention to detail, and a checklist-driven style to make sure that everything is working smoothly before a campaign goes live

ABOUT US

We’re a new social media SaaS tool for small businesses.

We are NOT your typical startup. Your inbox will be a deadzone on evenings and weekends (for real) and we believe in having a full life OUTSIDE of the office. That being said, we love our work and take huge pride in creating products and customer experiences that are fun, useful and rewarding. We’re self-funded and profitable, meaning we get to do whatever we want!

We all work from our own home offices (or local coworking space) scattered throughout the US. When you join us you’ll be part of the most incredible team you’ve ever witnessed! We’re caring, respectful, organized and love to push our own boundaries of what we can create together.

This is a full-time, benefited work-from-home position. Applicants must be based in North America.

ABOUT THE JOB
You will help direct the voice of all of our content, from banner ads to long-form educational content and well-researched blog posts on the latest social media trends. You'll work with our Marketing Project Manager to strategize and execute a variety of direct response marketing materials, including email funnels and opt-in pages. Day in and day out, you’ll be responsible for making sure we’re creating and sharing great stuff.

This is an extremely self-directed role. You'll be working as part of a larger marketing and content team, but your assignments will belong to you from start to finish - this means you'll be handling everything from research and brainstorming topics, writing and editing your piece, formatting and publishing your work on our blog/website, and then reporting back in to the rest of the team on its performance.

On any given day, you may be tasked with writing a long, epic resource for our Edgar audience, an email sequence promoting a free webinar for LKR Social Media, and a quick Facebook post sharing our latest app update. You should be comfortable adapting to small changes in voice and tone (to accommodate the many types of content we create), and be able to hit a home run with each one. When a piece of content isn't as effective as it could be, you'll take charge of tweaking and testing for improved results.

This is both a creative and a tactical position - you’ll dream up ways to get our audience excited, and execute them.

Your duties will include:
  • Writing high quality blog posts from scratch on a variety of marketing and small business topics in our established brand voice and tone
  • Writing social media status updates to promote your work
  • Strategizing and writing marketing copy for products and promotions, including landing pages and email sequences
  • Reporting on the performance of your own content and looking for ways to optimize your work to achieve performance and conversion goals
  • Creating the occasional graphic for social media & blog posts, or working with a designer on larger projects
  • Uploading, formatting, scheduling, and publishing your own blog posts (we use WordPress!)
  • Generally creating, finding & editing fun, useful, awesome content to represent our brand online

ABOUT YOU

You are a masterful writer who loves to write and is inspired by a good deadline! This is a fast-paced, high-production job and you must have previous experience in that kind of environment. You're comfortable with direct feedback and can make rapid changes when needed.

Your style is conversational and compelling. We don’t take ourselves too seriously and like our audience to have fun with the content that we create. You despise spammy, “content farm” style writing. You create engaging, smart writing that will stand out from the endless stream of mediocre blog posts and sales emails.

You have a results-oriented mindset. You aren't data-averse and you're interested in writing that produces measurable results. You enjoy circling back through what you've created to gauge its effectiveness, and you geek out on making changes or performing tests to optimize those results. You can view your work objectively to recognize what is and isn't working, then course correct as needed.

You know our audience intimately - in fact, you love reading the same type of content they do. You get excited about topics ranging from social media management, online marketing (especially for small businesses), and business productivity. You know how to turn a piece about a Facebook algorithm change into something that's actually entertaining and compelling to read, without sacrificing usefulness for style. You love a great tech tool and you're always on the hunt for what's new and interesting in our industry.

You have at least 3 years of full-time of professional writing (not writing for school or occasional blogging on the side).

ABOUT US

We’re a company with a social media training past (http://LKRsocialmedia.com) and software future (http://MeetEdgar.com). You’ll focus primarily on Edgar, but marketing our training programs at LKR will be in your wheelhouse as well.

We are NOT your typical startup. Your inbox will be a deadzone on evenings and weekends (for real) and we believe in having a full life OUTSIDE of the office. That being said, we love our work and take huge pride in creating products and customer experiences that are fun, useful and rewarding. ABOUT THE JOB

You’ll be working from your home (or wherever you’d like!) taking care of our customers, an amazing community of small business owners, social media marketers, and bloggers!

You’ll have full ownership of making our customers happy, and be our main internal liaison for communicating what users are asking for.

We’re a service-first company that values quick and personal responses. You'll be command central for all of the communication that comes into the business, fielding it or responding to it as necessary. (Basically - you are gonna spend a WHOLE lotta time writing emails!)

The types of emails you’ll be writing:
  • Techie stuff: when people report bugs or are having trouble using Edgar, you’ll help them troubleshoot and re-create bugs for our development team
  • Taking care of people stuff: when people just want to chat or have a social media question, you'll respond
  • Selling stuff: you’ll be our frontline for getting prospects acquainted with Edgar and how using our software to manage their social media will benefit them

You need to love working on a team AND be great at directing your own time, as you’ll be managing your own workflow. Excellent time-management skills are extremely important for this role.

You’ll be taking care of our customers and community for about 15-20 hours per week - mostly Monday through Friday during normal US business hours, but we have room for you to stretch those hours into the weekend as well.

ABOUT YOU

Your greatest talent in life is putting people at ease and making them feel heard. You know how to diffuse a difficult situation with grace. You have a positive outlook and love people. You’re always looking for ways to take care of people and make sure that they’re happy campers.

You’re awesome at written communication and you can expertly perceive when an answer requires a more detailed response and when it’s best to keep it simple.

You speak technology as a first language (you know that anything and everything is google-able) and are great at teaching yourself new software and web applications. You love tinkering and finding cool ways to leverage technology to make your job more efficient... and you love a great tech tool!

You are extremely motivated and proactive. You love learning new skills, and are always excited to pitch in and add value. You are organized and have no problem managing your own time.

ABOUT US

We’re a company with a social media training past (http://LKRsocialmedia.com) and software future (http://MeetEdgar.com). You’ll focus primarily on Edgar, but assisting people with our training products at LKR Social Media should be within your wheelhouse as well.
